Stratford earned a 14-7 win for its first victory of the season after an 0-9 start.

New Tulane coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. is off to a very good start on the recruiting trail.

He added commitments from Patrick School (Hillside, N.J.) big men Bul Ajang and Buay Koka, according to ZagsBlog.  Ajang is 6-10 and Koka is 7 foot. Both players are originally from South Sudan.

“They enjoyed their visit and Bul Ajang loved their engineering program,” head coach Chris Chavannes told ZagsBlog.  They also like the like the concept of growing with the program. I think it will be a good fit for both boys.  They both have yet to reach their potential.  This will be great for Tulane University.”

The Patrick School is No. 10 in the Super 25 Preseason Rankings released this week.

Georgia commit Robert Beal has left No. 2 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) and returned to his home state to enroll at Peachtree Ridge (Suwanee, Ga.), an IMG spokesman confirmed.

The news was first reported by 247Sports’ Kipp Adams.

“I just wanted to get back home,” Beal told USA TODAY Sports via direct message Saturday.

Beal is ranked as the No 4 weakside defensive end and No. 49 player overall in the Class of 2017 by the 247Sports Composite rankings. He was selected to the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Football Team.

Because of the move, he will no longer enroll early at Georgia as planned and will instead join the team in the summer.

Beal transferred to IMG in May from Norcross High in Georgia.

Beal was a Notre Dame commit before decommitting in February and then committing to Georgia in July.

An Under Armour All-American, Beal told DawgNation.com last month that he intends to take all five of his official visits, although he said at the time, “I’m still locked into Georgia. It will be hard for me to flip. … I would tell the Georgia fans not to worry too much. Tell them I’m coming home.”

Gonzaga College High School (Washington, D.C.) held off a comeback attempt by No. 22 St. John’s College (Washington, D.C.) for a 45-35 victory Saturday.

St. John’s trailed by 17 points, 38-21, at the end of the third quarter but stormed back on a pair of touchdown passes from Kasim Hill. Hill hit Maurice Bellan with 4:27 remaining to cut the margin to 38-35.

However, on Gonzaga’s next possession, it drove the ball down the field on the ground to the goal line. Gonzaga fumbled on the snap, but recovered in the end zone for a touchdown with 1:47 left. That score set the final margin.

Gonzaga had a 24-14 lead at halftime and went up 31-14 on a 21-yard TD run by Tyre Randolph early in the third quarter. The teams traded scores through the rest of the quarter, with St. John’s scoring on Hill run and Gonzaga scoring on a pick six by Jason Labbe’s.

Hill, who was hampered by an ankle injury, threw for two scores and ran for two scores in leading St. John’s.

The matchup, however, was just Part 1 with the teams scheduled to meet again next week in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference semifinals. No. 6 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) and Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) meet in the other semifinals, also a rematch of the regular season finale. DeMatha beat Good Counsel 21-7 on Friday night.

Dodge City won the first Kansas state title in boys soccer by a team from Western Kansas and climbed into the Top 10 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/National Soccer Coaches Association of America Super 25 for fall boys soccer.

Dodge City finished a 21-0-0 season with a 1-0 victory against Olathe East to win the 6A title. Joshua DonJuan scored the game’s only goal and goalkeepers Jorge Ortiz and Jesus Herrera preserved the shutout.

Dodge City had beaten Olathe East 4-1 in the third-place game last season.

RELATED: Full Super 25 rankings

Dodge City had been receiving votes in the rankings but moves to No. 6 after not allowing a goal in any postseason game.

“These boys deserve it,” coach Saul Hernandez, who is in his second year as coach but played for Dodge City, told CatchItKansas.com. “I wanted everyone to see that these boys are talented as anyone in the state. They proved it … there is good soccer in Dodge City and in western Kansas.”

St. Ignatius (Cleveland) remains in the top spot followed by Boulder (Colo.), although much of the top 10 was jumbled following losses by Conestoga (Berwyn, Pa.) and Morton (Ill.).

Stillwater Regional (Minn.) moves up one spot to No. 4, Lower Dauphin (Hummelstown, Pa.) moves up from No. 9 to No. 4 and Fairport (N.Y.) moves from No. 7 to No. 5.

After Dodge City at No. 6, Salesianum (Wilmington) is No. 7, Nauset (Mass.) is No. 8, St. Charles Prep (Columbus, Ohio) jumps from No. 12 to No. 9 and McMinnville (Ore.) moves from No. 11 to No. 10.

Henderson (West Chester, Pa.) is the big mover among teams that were in last week’s rankings, leaping from No. 25 to No. 11 on the heels of its 2-0 victory against Conestoga.

Joining Dodge City among the newcomers are No. 15 Naperville North (Ill.), No. 20 Rockwood Summit (Fenton, Mo.), No. 21 Martin Luther King (New York), No. 24 Preble (Green Bay) and No. 25 La Cueva (Albuquerque, N.M.). All were among teams receiving votes last week.

Penn (Mishawaka, Ind.) avenged its loss in the state title game to Brebeuf Jesuit (Indianapolis) and has jumped to No. 5 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/National Soccer Coaches Association of America Super 25 for fall girls soccer.

MORE: See the full Super 25 rankings

Penn, which had been No. 15, posted a 2-0 victory in the 2A state final against Brebeuf, which had allowed just one goal in its previous 11 games entering the title game.

Penn won the first girls soccer state title in school history and finished 22-0-1.

Brebeuf had beaten Penn 2-1 in last year’s final, but Penn coach Jeff Hart knew his team was different after losing 13 seniors and returning only four starter.

“We tried to distance ourselves (from last year) by understanding that this is a completely different team,” Hart told Gannett partner The Indianapolis Star. “Sixteen of our kids on varsity this year were JV kids last year … but they were here last year and understand the finality of losing a tight one.”

No. 1 Davis (Kaysville, Utah), which has already repeated as state champion remains No. 1. Following a loss by No.2 Strongsville (Ohio), Glastonbury (Conn.) moves up a spot as does Norwin (Irwin, Pa.) and Massapequa (N.Y.).

With playoffs and state tournaments underway, the Super 25 saw some significant shifting beginning at No. 10.

Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio), which was in the Super 25 earlier in the season, returns at No. 10. Spencerport (N.Y.) is in at No. 11.

Other newcomers begin with No. 17 Centennial (St. Paul), No. 18 Niskayuna (N.Y.), No. 21 Notre Dame Prep (Towson, Md.), No. 22 Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.), No. 23 Winfield (W.Va.), No. 24 Clarence (N.Y.) and No. 25 Notre Dame (Toledo).

Shawnee (Okla.) center Creed Humphrey is a dominant force on the offensive line, a position that typically doesn’t get a lot of recognition.

For Humphrey, though, that wasn’t the case Wednesday, as he was given his honorary U.S. Army All-American Bowl jersey at a ceremony at his school as part of the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance.

“I’m excited to get this award,” Humphrey said. “It’s a huge honor.”

The Army All-American Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 7 in San Antonio.

“I’ll definitely be playing against the top players in the country in this game, so I’ll definitely see what the elite level looks like,” he said.

Beyond that, Humphrey, an Oklahoma commit, indicated that some close family friends are in the military, which only adds to the excitement of being able to play in front of service members.

It will be his last chance to play competitive high school football before joining Bob Stoops’ team.

But before arriving in Norman, Humphrey hopes the experience in San Antonio will give him and his future Sooners teammates a chance to build some team chemistry.

“We have a couple other OU commits at the game, so I’m looking forward to spending time with them and building relationships with those guys before we get on campus,” he said.

“I’m expecting to help the team in any way possible. I have the ability to learn fast, I’m physical, and I give full effort every play.”

Chevin Calloway celebrates birthday with Under Armour All-America jersey

Chevin Calloway, a four-star cornerback prospect, celebrated his 18th birthday Wednesday by receiving his honorary jersey for the Under Armour All-America Game.

Calloway was honored when the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to his school, Bishop Dunne in Dallas.

“My dream on the football field is to make the big play of the game, make one great highlight,” he said.

It’s been an eventful few days for Calloway, who also decommitted from Iowa this week after committing in July.  The decommitment was not a surprise. Calloway had already violated Iowa’s “no visits” policy and has been to Texas and Nebraska and is scheduled to be at Arkansas this weekend. He also is planning to visit Ole Miss and Colorado.

He also was critical of the communication style of the Iowa staff.

“It was weird to be honest,” Calloway told Scout.com last month. “I have the head coaches at Arkansas and Ole Miss calling me weekly and we can’t even get my position coach at Iowa to get on the phone with me. You want to go where you feel wanted.”

Where the 5-8, 180-pound Call0way is wanted now is Orlando for the Jan. 1 showcase, although first comes the Texas state playoffs.

He is ranked as the No. 8 cornerback and No. 76 overall by ESPN.
