No. 2 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to rally for a 16-6 victory against host Bishop Sullivan (Virginia Beach) and cap a second consecutive undefeated season.

The game was part of the Under Armour Brothers in Arms Classic.

Bishop Sullivan took a 6-0 lead in the fourth quarter, but attempted to convert a fourth down deep in its own end. When IMG (11-0) stopped the play, the Ascenders took over in the red zone. Kellen Mond would score on a 1-yard run for his 18th rushing TD of the season and IMG led 7-6.

Late in the fourth quarter, Bishop Sullivan was driving for a go-ahead score and went for it on fourth-and-3 with less than three minutes remaining. That attempt was stopped, and two plays later Tre McKitty made a one-handed catch in stride and raced to a 91-yard TD for a 14-6 lead.

The final points came on a safety with less than a minute remaining when Josh Kaindoh sacked Crusaders QB Tyler Desue in the end zone.

Sylvain Francisco finished with 30 points for West Oaks (Orlando) in a 68-58 victory against Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.), but what had people buzzing was a player in which he caused his defender to do a split.

Francisco, a 6-2 senior, ran with E1T1 last summer and also played for the Under-20 French National Team.

Alabama quarterback commit Tua Tagovailoa became the career leading passer in Hawaii high school football history and led Saint Louis to a 30-14 win against No. 19 Kahuku  in the state Open Division championship in Halawa.

According to Hawaii Prep World, Tagovailoa finished his career with 8,158 passing yards and 84 touchdowns. Chang passed for 8,001 yards during his career in 10 more games than Tagovailoa played. Tagovailoa also added 1,727 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns for 111 career TDs.

Tagovailoa’s career record as a starter is 24-5 as he finished up school and plans to enroll early at Alabama in January. He will play in the Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio on Jan. 7 in his last high school game.

He leaves Saint Louis having led the school to its fourth state title in school history with the upset victory Saturday. The matchup was voted the Super 25 Game of the Week by readers of USA TODAY High School Sports.

Tagovailoa was 16-for-25 for 243 yards passing and added 136 rushing yards along with two total touchdowns in the state title game. No play was bigger than his conversion of a fourth-and-1 and his own 29-yard line with six minutes remaining and his team ahead 16-14.

Running a play that Saint Louis actually does not have in its playbook, he went for 29 yards. He later capped the scoring drive with a 30-yard run for a 23-14 lead with 4:44 remaining.

“We never practiced that. I mean, you see that in NCAA and NFL, where they start from shotgun and go underneath,” Tagovailoa told Hawaii Prep World. “It was just one of those things where you trust your coaches and they trust you, you go out and do it. My coach told me to go under center, but I told him I’m going to walk up, and once you walk up, it shows where everybody (on defense) was going in their gaps.”

Kahuku finishes the season at 11-2. The loss to Saint Louis was its only defeat against a Hawaii team; the other loss was at No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas).

Nauset Regional wins Mass. boys soccer title, outscores opponents 108-1 on season

The Nauset Regional (North Eastham, Mass.) boys soccer team finished off its perfect season with a 23-0 record and a Division 2 state championship.

But then consider this: Nauset entered the state final against Masconomet Regional (Boxford) having outscored the opposition 106-0 on the season. Again, yes, zero.

If nothing else, Masconomet  can say it became the first — and only — team to score on Nauset, when Michael Budrewicz connected with 26 minutes left in the first half to tie the score at 1-1.

Nauset is ranked No. 7 in the USA TODAY Sports/National Soccer Coaches Association of America Super 25 for fall boys soccer.

“We thought about maybe calling a timeout, but we didn’t,” coach James McCully told The Bostone Globe.  “We thought, ‘Let’s let it play itself out . . . let’s see how good we are now.’ ”

The answer was really good. While the game settled through the end of the first half and into the early part of the second half, James McCully (the coach’s son) scored from the left side of the box with 29 minutes to play.

That set the final margin and would eventually lead to Nauset’s first state title since 1979.

McCully scored both of his team’s goals to finish with 38, one shy of his father’s school record.

Rhett Rodriguez, son of Arizona coach, accounts for 7 TDs; leads Catalina Foothills to first state final

Rhett Rodriguez, the son of Arizona football coach Rich Rodriguez, accounted for seven touchdowns as Catalina Foothills upset top-seeded Higley (Gilbert), 62-37, to advance to the first Arizona state football championship game in school history.

Rodriguez, a three-star prospect who committed to Arizona in Janaury, had four passing TDs and three scores on the ground. He had 311 yards passing on 17 for 22 and added 69 yards rushing on 19 carries.

He was involved in all but two of Catalina Foothills’ scores.

“His game management skills are unbelievable for a high school kid,” coach Jeff Scurran told Tucson.com of Rodriguez. “It’s the right pass at the right time that’s going to the correct guy with just enough to know where the sticks are. Every rep at practice, every rep in the weight room is done the same way. And this is where it pays off.”

Catalina Foothills (11-2) faces Saguaro (Scottsdale) on Nov. 26 in the 4A state title game at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, the home of the Arizona Cardinals.

Cameron Reddish, the No. 4 in the Class of 2018, is off to a good start. Really good.

Reddish, a 6-8 small forward, filled the stat sheet as Westtown School (West Chester, Pa.), ranked No. 11 in the Preseason Super 25, won the inaugural Westtown Invitational.

Reddish had 41 points, 13 rebounds, seven steals and six assists in a 75-60 victory against Hill School in the title game Saturday.

That followed a 31-point performance in a 76-67 victory against Redemption Christian on Friday.

Reddish was selected to the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Team.

Oscar Smith QB Shon Mitchell keeps Virginia career passing record 'in the family'

Shon Mitchell is now the leading passer in Virginia High School League history.

The star at Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, Via.) threw for 109 yards in a 43-21 victory against Bayside in the 6A South semifinals to give him 10,766 yards. That moves him past former Oscar Smith star Phillip Sims.

“It’s honestly surreal,” Mitchell, a William & Mary commit, told reporters afterward. “I knew I was in contention for it heading into the season, and now to break it, I guess it’s a relief. Now I can focus on my team, on winning a state championship, and just play ball.”

Mitchell noted that he’s happy the state record will “stay in the family.”

“Me and Phil are pretty good friends,” he told The Virginian Pilot. “I used to sit in the stands and watch Phil all the time.

“So being able to break that record of his, that’s kind of special. But it’s not an individual thing. I have a great support system – family, teammates, coaches, teachers, my community. I can’t thank them enough.”

This 40-yard pass from Mitchell to CamRon Kelly gave Mitchell the record.

All Maine Central Institute (Pittsfield, Maine) needed to lock up its first state title in 42 years was a 37-yard field goal as time expired to break the tie with Lisbon (Maine). They weren’t able to get the kick off, however.

They still were able to get the state title, though, thanks to some quick thinking from Eli Bussell.

Instagram Photo

“It’s amazing. It feels impossible to put into words. It’s the best feeling I’ve ever had,” Bussell told the Portland (Maine) Press-Herald. “Indescribable. It was an amazing feeling.”

MCI, which finished the season 12-0, trailed 14-0 at halftime. A touchdown in the final minutes tied the score, setting up Bussell’s clutch play. His score gave MCI the 20-14 victory.

“We always have a ‘fire’ call but Eli just made a play,” MCI coach Tom Bertrand told the Bangor (Maine) Daily News. “I think he was going to throw the ball but he saw a lane and went. He just made a play. They’ve been doing it all year.”

Allen (Texas) has played in some big games over the past decade, notably winning three consecutive state titles from 2012 to 2014.

For San Angelo Central, though, Friday’s UIL 6A Division I regional semifinal is a BIG game, and maybe the biggest ever in San Angelo, according to a Facebook page run by the team’s fans.

Allen is the top seed and San Angelo is the No. 6 seed, but San Angelo won the coin flip and gets to host the game.

“We’re excited about it,” Central coach Brent Davis told the Standard-Times. “We won the flip and we’ve got them at home. It’s going to be a fantastic atmosphere and our kids are pumped about the opportunity.

“We want to play the best. You can’t be the best if you don’t beat the best. The best has has got to come to our house and we’ll see what happens.”

Ohio State commit Wyatt Davis reaches goal of being Army All-American

Wyatt Davis has football in his family – both on the field and in the movies.

His grandfather, Willie Davis, was a Hall of Fame defensive end for the Green Bay Packers. His father, Duane, is noted for playing Alvin Mack in the 1993 movie, “The Program.”

Both have had a role in making Davis into the nation’s top-ranked guard and a U.S. Army All-American. Davis received his honorary jersey Monday when the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to his school, St. John Bosco in Bellflower, Calif.

The Army Bowl is Jan. 7 in San Antonio.

His dad always taught him to make sure you keep getting better, Wyatt said. His grandfather has “helped make me the football player I am now,” Wyatt said.

“I’m very grateful for what he’s taught me. He’s been a huge part of my football career. He’s someone who’s going to tell me how to play the game so I can look at it from his perspective.”

Somewhat unassuming off the field, the 6-5, 310-pounder is aggressive in the trenches. That’s among the things that he’s looking forward to at the Army Bowl. While a lot of the attention is focused on the one-on-one battles among wide receivers and defensive backs, the battle inside on the lines is just as fierce.

“I’m expecting it to be high competition on every single play,” he said. “I’ve played at The Opening and other camps and the competition there is in a highly (aggressive) atmosphere.”

Wyatt Davis presents his Dream Champion award to his parents Inge and Duane (Photo: Army All-American Bowl)

Davis said reaching the Army Bowl has been a longtime goal.

“It’s been a big deal ever since I got into high school football,” he said. “Being able to meet my goal of playing in it is a great experience.

“I’m looking forward to being able to see the guys that I’ve met (at other events), being able to compete with the best competition. I mean, going to Army Bowl and playing in front of all those people … I just can’t wait for all those people.”

No. 11 St. John Bosco still has work to be done this season, continuing with a CIF-Southern Section semifinal against No. 7 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) this week.

RELATED: Super 25 Expert football rankings

But after the Army Bowl and his high school career ends, Davis is part of the recruiting class at Ohio State that is ranked No. 2 in the nation.

“Playing at Ohio State is a great opportunity and I’m going to do everything I can to take advantage of it,” he said. “Coach (Greg Studrawa) is a great offensive line coach who’s developed some great offensive linemen coaching at LSU. I’m really looking forward to learning new techniques and growing as player and becoming the player I want to be in the next several years.”

Four-star defensive tackle Greg Rogers commits to UCLA with tribute to Goodfellas

Greg Rogers, ranked as the No. 6 defensive tackle in the Class of 2017 by the 247Sports Composite, committed to UCLA on Monday, using a famous scene from “Goodfellas.”

The video was posted by Bleacher Report.

Rogers, an Under Armour All-American from Arbor View (Las Vegas), chose the Bruins from among 24 reported offers, including Oklahoma, Colorado, USC and Arizona.

Rogers, who is 6-3, 305 pounds, becomes the 10th commitment for Jim Mora and the Bruins.

Blair Angulo from partner Scout.com breaks down Rogers’ decision this way: “This is a really good addition for the Bruins at a position of need. It’s a great year out West in the defensive tackle department and Rogers is unquestionably one of the best given his upside. Though he is just scratching the surface of his potential as a pass-rusher, Rogers has enough versatility in his skill set that he should have an opportunity to see the field early in his college career. Rogers has the frame to be bigger and stronger, which really helps him hold his ground against guards and centers on the interior, and he could certainly develop into an all-conference type down the road.”

Coming off its victory against Mission Viejo (Calif.), Rancho Cucamonga has rocketed into the top 10 of the Super 25 Computer football rankings.

Rancho Cucamonga is No. 9 after its 42-26 victory against Mission Viejo in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 quarterfinal, moving up from No. 21. The loss ended Mission Viejo’s 39-game winning streak. Mission Viejo was No. 11 in the Super 25 Computer rankings last week.

RELATED: Computer rankings searchable by state

Under Armour All-American Jaylon Redd scored two touchdowns early in the third quarter to give Rancho a 21-13 lead that it never relinquished. The Cougars scored 28 unanswered points in the third quarter before defensive back Thomas Graham, also an Under Armour All-American, returned an interception 70 yards for a TD with 1:32 remaining. Mission Viejo was trailing by nine at the time.

The top six spots remained the same: Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), Centennial (Corona, Calif.) and Loyola Academy (Wilmette, Ill.).

Center Grove (Greenwood, Ind.) moved up from No. 10 to No. 7; DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) jumped one spot to No. 8; followed by Rancho Cucamonga and St. Ignatius (Cleveland). St. Ignatius is up from No. 12.

Mountain Pointe (Phoenix) begins the second 10 at No. 11. Prairie Ridge (Crystal Lake, Ill.), East St. Louis (Ill.), Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) and Trinity (Louisville) round out the top 15.

Utah state champion Bingham (South Jordan) is No. 16. Detroit Catholic Central, McGill-Toolen (Mobile, Ala.), Camas (Wash.) and Chandler (Ariz.) finish up the Top 20. McGill-Toolen, heading into the 7A state title game against Hoover, is the highest-ranked newcomer.

Cass Tech (Detroit) starts the final five, followed by Salt Lake City East, Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Allen (Texas) and University of San Diego High. San Diego is the second newcomer in the Super 25.
