Three of the remaining six uncommitted players ranked as five stars by the 247Sports Composite are expected to commit at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday in San Antonio.

They are among a group of seven who are scheduled to announce during NBC’s telecast of the event.

Foster Sarell, OT, Graham-Kapowsin (Graham, Wash.)

The No. 2 player overall in the Class of 2017, Sarrell has  finalists of Nebraska, Notre Dame, Stanford, USC and Washington. He has taken official visits to all of them, except Stanford. He has visited Palo Alto numerous times unofficially. Stanford has landed another top 20 tackle in Walker Little from Bellaire (Episcopal, Texas).

Jeffrey Okudah, CB, South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie, Texas)

Ranked as the No. 7 player overall, he is said to be down to Ohio State, Oklahoma and Florida State. Ohio State has long been considered the favorite.

Darnay Holmes, CB, Calabassas (Calif.)

Ranked as the No. 12 player overall, he is expected to choose from among Nebraska, Ohio State, USC and UCLA. The Bruins are the favorite, but he visited Ohio State for the Michigan game and got an in-home visit from Ohio State coaches before the dead period began in mid-December. The Buckeyes’ late run could sway him.

Eno Benjamin, RB, Wylie East (Wylie, Texas)

Benjamin was an Iowa commit who was among the players who decommitted after defying Iowa’s policy by taking other official visits. His final five are Arizona State, Missouri, Texas, Utah and Michigan. He is ranked as the No. 8 running back.

Bubba Bolden, S, Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas)

Will Bolden joins high school teammates Tate Martell, Haskell Garrett and Tyjon Lindsey at Ohio State? Or will he stay on the West Coast at USC? He is ranked as the No. 6 safety.

Jamire Calvin, WR, Cathedral (Los Angeles)

Calvin, ranked as the No. 36 wide receiver, could have an ew entrant in his final choices with an offer from Oregon that came after the coaching change. His list had been Nebraska, Notre Dame and Washington State. He also received a New Year’s Day offer from Baylor.

Chuck Filiaga, OT, Aledo (Texas)

The 6-6 Filiaga moved from California to Texas before his senior year of high school, but he doesn’t seem likely to move west for college. Michigan, Oklahoma and Nebraska are his finalists. He is listed as the No. 14 offensive tackle.

N.J. wrestler presents his gold medal to opponent with Down Syndrome

Michael Arechavala is a well-known figure in the Audubon (N.J.) community.

A three-sport athlete with Down Syndrome, he has been a familiar face in the school’s athletic community and its halls. His mom says he’s known as “The Mayor.”

Michael has been involved with the Special Olympics since the age of 7 and that helped fuel his interest and participation in sports.

He got an at-bat for the baseball team as a freshman, and this football season, he ran a kickoff back for a touchdown in a 45-6 victory on Thanksgiving Day. The coaches wanted to reward him for his hard work to the program over his four years.

Amazingly, he also recently collected 6,152 items for his church’s food pantry to attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

He was part of a touching moment on the wrestling mat last week when he faced Devon Starks from Highland Regional (Blackwell, N.J.) at the Bart Payne Tournament.

Starks let Arechavala take him down twice in the match before he “gently” took the victory so he could advance in the tournament.

Starks, also a football player, would go on to win an individual title, but he left without his championship medal. That’s because he found Arechavala and gave it to him.

“It was totally a normal thing to me to make sure a person who was dealt the wrong card in life could still have fun in the sport I love,” Starks told USA TODAY High School Sports. “It really made me happy to see his reaction of pure joy when I gave him my medal.

“I feel anyone in my position would have done the same if they understood his situation. I honestly felt more proud to give him the medal than winning my finals match.”

Kudos to Starks for an incredible show of sportsmanship and class.

Marvin Bagley III: If you don't want to be the best, why play?

After sitting out last season amid transfers to Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix) and Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.), Marvin Bagley is back on the court and enjoying it.

Bagley, ranked as the No. 1 player in the junior class, has helped Sierra Canyon to a No. 2 ranking in the Super 25 before the run of holiday tournaments.

Sierra Canyon suffered its first loss when it fell to Nathan Hale (Seattle) 67-65 in the finals of the Les Schwab Invitational in Oregon. Bagley was named the tournament’s most outstanding player and had 22 points and 10 rebounds in the title game.

Bagley was selected to the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Team.

Rivals.com caught up with Bagley at the Schwab and he had some interesting thoughts on being back on the court and his college recruitment that you can read here.

He also addressed his status as the top-ranked player in the Class of 2018.

“If you don’t want to be the best then why play the game,” Bagley said. “That’s my mindset. I want to be the best player for my class and any class.

“It’s not to be cocky, but me as a competitor that’s what I work for. When I go through my workouts I think about that stuff. But whatever comes with it, I can’t control it and I just want to play and win and get better as a player and do whatever I can to get wins for my team.”

Clemson commit Malik William sets school record with 16 blocks, also grabs 14 boards

Here’s a perfect example of changing a game without scoring.

Malik William, a Clemson commit, helped The First Academy (Orlando) to an easy 81-52 victory against Holy Trinity (Melbourne, Fla.) in the final of TFA’s Christmas tournament.

Chaundee Brown poured in 34 points to lead TFA, but William’s stat line was perhaps more impressive: 16 blocks, 14 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and just five points.

The 16 blocks is a school record.

“I didn’t realize I had that many blocks until they had told me when I had came out of the game,” William told USA TODAY High School Sports. “I thought I probably had about 8 or 9 blocks.

“I believe they thought I couldn’t keep doing the same thing. They tried so many ways to score, but I was still finding ways to block them. Sometimes I was acting like I was going to block them, and they would just miss the bucket on their own.”

No. 1 recruit Najee Harris doesn't plan public announcement of college choice

The unique recruiting process of No. 1 overall player Najee Harris will have an equally unique ending.

Harris, in San Antonio for Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl, reiterated Tuesday that he doesn’t plan to make a public announcement as to whether he will enroll at Alabama or Michigan next week, according to multiple reports. Instead, he plans to leave the Army Bowl and head to college.

While friendly and joking with news reporters after practice, the running back from Antioch (Calif.) declined to be interviewed beyond that.

The comments are similar to what Harris — a first-team American Family Insurance ALL-USA player — told Scout.com before arriving in Texas.

“I’m still committed to Alabama, but I will know for sure by Saturday where I’m going to go,” Harris told Scout.  “I’m not going to announce anything during the game or anything like that.  I’ll just know where for sure I’m going.  I know I’m going from San Antonio to college.”

In an era of elaborate commitment videos and announcement plans, Harris shuns all of it.

He has no Twitter account. He uses Instagram, leading to all sorts of speculation, including when he began following a bunch of Michigan players and then when he wore a Jordan Brand Michigan shirt on Christmas Day.

When asked about his plans throughout the season, he primarily said his commitment was to Antioch High School with the exception of a few interviews.

Harris told 247Sports on Monday that he still considers himself an Alabama commit but said he remained undecided.

As for his communication with the Alabama and Michigan staffs, Harris said, “I talk to both of them. I don’t call them. I’m not worried about it. I’m doing workouts 100 percent. They always bug me in the workouts. I’ll tell them, ‘Hold up, I’m trying to work out.’ Both schools have been busy lately ’cause the games. Whatever free time they get, they’ll talk to me, but it’s quick.”

Meanwhile, Harris’ brother apparently tweeted that he hopes Najee goes to Michigan.

Report: California commissioners plan to discuss response to IMG Academy

$

The California Interscholastic Federation commissioners have added an agenda item to their meeting next week to discuss a potential response to IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), according to The Los Angeles Times.

In the last few weeks, running back T.J. Pledger from Chaminade (West Hills, Calif.) and defensive back Brendan Radley-Hiles from Calabasas have announced transfers to IMG.

“We are aware of the situation, as it relates to student-athletes from member schools within our section being contacted by IMG Academy,” Southern Section commissioner Rob Wigod said in a statement to the Times. “Also, this is not just a CIF Southern Section issue, it is something we are experiencing state-wide. Therefore, this situation is on the agenda for next week’s CIF Commissioner’smeeting in order to discuss it. More information should be forthcoming after that meeting.”

A spokesman for IMG Academy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

IMG is a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association but has chosen not compete for state championships. The academy is not allowed to recruit within Florida, but is not prohibited from recruiting from outside the state, according to the FHSAA. IMG has players from numerous states and many countries on its athletic teams.

IMG finished the 2016 football season at 11-0 and ranked No. 2 in the final Super 25.

California will not be the first state to make a statement on IMG. Efforts have been made in Texas and Georgia as well. The head of the Texas High School Coaches Association criticized IMG and urged Texas schools not to schedule the Ascenders last spring; in the fall, a coach called out IMG for allegedly trying to recruit one of its players. The GHSA adopted a bylaw that was intended to prevent schools from playing IMG in football; IMG asked the GHSA to remove the bylaw change saying it was based on an incorrect premise.

According to the Times, Chaminade Athletic Director Todd Borowski emailed a letter to Florida officials complaining, “IMG called TJ a few weeks ago and was trying to get him and a few other players in the area to go there. I don’t know your rules there, but out here that would be a HUGE violation.”

East Syracuse-Minoa (N.Y.) had two bowlers roll perfect games — on the same night.

Freshman Hunter Borkowski had his 300 for the boys team in a 3-0 victory against Christian Brothers Academy and junior Haley Youker had her 300 for the girls team also in a 3-0 win against CBA, according to Syracuse.com.

And another bowler, Ryan McCombine, had two games where he was perfect through eight frames. He finished with a 748 series.

Coach Marty Piraino told Syracuse.com there have only been five 300 games in his 15 years as coach of both teams.

“To have two of them on one night is insane,” he said.

Youker finished with a team-high 797 series. Piraino noted that Youker travels around the country for bowling tournaments and “It wasn’t a matter of whether she would throw a 300, it was just a matter of when.”
