Nashville (Ark.) and Idabel (Okla.) equaled the Arkansas state record for combined points in an 11-man football game when Nashville rolled to a 91-63 victory, according to the Northwest Arkansas Gazette.

Hot Springs Lakeside and Fountain Lake combined for 154 points in 2008, with Fountain Lake winning 88-66.

With the victory, defending state 4A champion Nashville ran its winning streak to 18 games, the longest active streak in the state.

Darius Hopkins had eight touchdowns in the first half on runs of 1, 3, 35, 42, 46, 4, 69 and 11 yards as Nashville led 56-36. He finished with 269 yards on 19 carries.

The teams combined for 1,340 yards — 747 for Nashville and 593 for Idabel.

Brevin White is a junior who is ranked among the top 10 pro-style quarterbacks in the Class of 2018 and already has a handful of Pac-12 offers.

White, from Chaminade (West Hills, Calif.), threw for 188 yards on 15-for-25 passing in a 28-20 victory against Bakersfield. Among those yards was a 62-yard touchdown pass to Michael Wilson.

Among the things that impress college coaches is White’s tough on the ball. See highlights from #D1Bound below, including the tough White showed on his TD passes and his ability to get out of the pocket under pressure.

This will be a break from the norm here at USA TODAY High School Sports.

We don’t often just simply direct you to read something elsewhere, but we urge high school athletes, coaches, athletic directors and parents of high schoolers to watch this video and read this story from The Richmond Times-Dispatch.

The piece, written by Eric Kolenich, chronicles the journey of Andrew Nelson, a former soccer player at  High who became addicted to drugs and alcohol.

Andrew was 12 the first time he tasted beer from his parents’ refrigerator. Soon after, he was smoking marijuana. When the high no longer was high enough, he discovered prescription painkillers. He was in the ninth grade. “I was just high all the time,” he said.

No. 1 tight end Colby Parkinson keeps tradition alive at Army All-American Bowl

Colby Parkinson got a little taste of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl experience during an unofficial visit to Stanford last weekend.

Among the other Army Bowl All-Americans on campus were quarterback Davis Mills and offensive tackles Walker Little and Foster Sarrell. Mills and Parkinson are Stanford commits; Little and Sarrell remain uncommitted.

Parkinson, the nation’s No. 1 tight end, got a bigger taste when he put on his honorary jersey Tuesday as the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to Oaks Christian in Westlake Village, Calif.

“Seeing all my friends and my classmates and my teammates around, it was pretty surreal,” he said of the ceremony. “This is definitely an exciting time in my life.”

Beyond just seeing future or potential future teammates, Parkinson is looking forward to the events in San Antonio in January as a means to uphold both family and school traditions.

“My uncles and both my grandfathers served and I’ve always loved the tradition of the Army All-American Game,” he said. “There are also plenty of Oaks Christian players before me who have gone and I see the banners in the gym so I wanted to keep that tradition going.”

While Parkinson will play for the West and Mills will play for the West, the two already have built a relationship by playing on the same team at The Opening Final over the summer.

“We had a great time at The Opening and really bonded,” Parkinson said. “We had a good connection on the field and off the field. I think we can get to Stanford, we’ll really have some fun and show our ability.”

Whomever the Stanford quarterback is should have fun with the two tight-end sets that Parkinson and Kaden Davis could form. Davis was a four-star recruit last spring from Flower Mound, Texas.  Parkinson is 6-6, 225; Smith is

“I was talking to one of the coaches at The Opening and he said he had never seem two tight ends like us at the same school,” Parkinson said. “We could be a deadly combination and dominate teams with our physicality and ability.”

It’s been a pretty good few days for Iowa running back commit Eno Benjamin.

After accounting for eight touchdowns and 461 yards of total offense Friday as Wylie East in Texas beat North Forney, 56-28, Benjamin accepted his honorary jersey for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Tuesday as the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to his school.

Benjamin is the first player to receive his jersey as the tour began Tuesday.

Benjamin, ranked as the No. 11 running back recruit in the Class of 2017 by 247Sports, is one of three Iowa commits on the roster for the Jan. 7 Army Bowl in San Antonio. He joins Ohio defensive end A.J. Epenesa and in-state offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs.

Benjamin is playing more of a Wildcat role this season in which he is passing and running. His 147 passing yards against North Forney was a season high.

He has run for 808 yards and 12 touchdowns on 94 carries through four games. For his career, he now has 85 career rushing touchdowns and more than 5,750 career rushing yards.

Holloman sported a pink sports coat with a black bow tie and white shirt.

But the wide receiver from Newton (Covington, Ga.) had something else to wear by the time the ceremony was over: An honorary jersey for the Jan. 7 Army Bowl in San Antonio.

“It was a great experience with my friends and family there to celebrate with me for all my hard work,” Holloman said.

The Army Bowl also is a chance for Holloman to pay tribute to members of his family in the military. He said his grandfather served in the Air Force, his sister is in the Army reserves, a cousin has just returned home after serving and another cousin begins basic training next month.

Holloman points to the great players that will be at the game as what he is looking forward to the most.

“I think it’s like The Opening — iron sharpens iron,” he said. “This is a place to help with my craft and I can become better as a result. It’s also a chance to create bonds with players around the country.”

Holloman is also among 22 players representing Georgia at the Army Bowl.

“Georgia really brings athletes,” he said. “We can compete and are top of the line. Eery time we go against each other within the state it’s like at the national level. We’re all used to it and get better and people see what we can do. That helps us get opportunities like these and we take advantage of them.”

Holloman plans to commit in December and then enroll early for the spring semester. He recently took a visit to Notre Dame, which his mother raved about and has an official visit to Miami scheduled for two weeks. Georgia is considered the leader.

“I’m just looking to get a good vibe about a school (when I visit),” he said. “Being around the coaches and hitting it off with them and feeling like we’re all in it for the same thing. I want to be confidence with the football aspect and become a better young man after everything  is said and done. Education is a key part. I want to make the degree I get is worth something when I leave. Location is also a part of it too and making sure my family feels like it’s a great place for me.”

Michigan commit posts hype video to attract another recruit, and it's awesome

A player who has committed to one school helping recruit another player to that school is nothing new.

But Michigan commit Corey Malone-Hatcher might have upped the game to another level.

Malone-Hatcher, a four-star defensive end from St. Joseph, Mich., has pushed out a hype video trying to entice four-star wide receiver Tarik Black from Cheshire Academy (Conn.) to commit to the Wolverines.

He also has urged Michigan fans to get #TBtoAA trending on Twitter.

And let’s just say the Michigan fans are taking that as a challenge:

Some other interested folks also have gotten involved, including Michigan five-star quarterback commit Dylan McCaffrey from Colorado.

Black, an Army All-American, made an official visit to Ann Arbor on Sept. 3 and then was at Auburn for an official visit last weekend.

“We’re pretty good friends,” Black said Tuesday of Malone-Hatcher. “He’s a good dude.”

Black also was impressed with the devotion of the fans.

“It’s super cool to be wanted by all of these fans,” he said. “I’m definitely feeling the love.”

As for whether this matters as Black’s continues his recruiting, he says, “It helps.”

How comfortable is the offense at Santa Margarita Catholic with tight end Grant Calcaterra?

Well, in a 37-7 victory against Loyola Academy (Los Angeles) in the second game of the season, Calcaterra was on the receiving end of the first 11 completions. He had 11 receptions, 237 yards and three touchdowns by halftime and finished with 15 receptions for 286 yards.

It’s that type of skill that has coaches excited at Oklahoma, where Calcaterra committed in April.

But before he gets to Norman, Calcaterra will finish his high school football career at the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 1 in Orlando.

Calcaterra received his honorary jersey Tuesday during a ceremony at high school as part of the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance.

Ranked as the No. 2 tight end in the Class of 2017 by ESPN, the 6-4 tight end also is a key player on the school’s basketball team.

A 7-year-old from Georgia who collapsed during a Sept. 8 soccer practice has died, his family announced on Facebook.

Aidan Heath was running drills at the Woodstock YMCA when his grandmother saw him fall to the ground and have what appeared to be a seizure.

He had been hospitalized since the incident and his family said Sunday that doctors determined he was brain dead after running additional tests.

The family posted this on Facebook on Sunday as part of the Prayers for Aiden group.

With extremely heavy hearts and a great deal of sadness to say Aidan has gone home to be with the lord Jesus Christ. The doctors performed the second test this morning and we did not get the results we so badly wanted. Please understand today is a hard day for the family so please be patient with us. We thank you all greatly for all the support and continued prayers. Aidan is a blessing to so many here on earth and is now a major blessing to all above. He will continue to watch after his little brother Jasper and his mother Ashley from a much more powerful place.

Quarterback Tristan Gebbia and wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson Jr. both play for Calabasas High in California and both have committed to the University of Nebraska.

Gebbia is ranked as the No. 8 pro style quarterback in the Class of 2017 by the 247Sports Composite. Johnson is a four-star wide receiver.

The connection they forged in high school could help them in Lincoln, at least that’s what Cornhuskers fans and coaches hope. USA TODAY Sports looked at the Calabraska connection this summer.

Under Armour All-America safety Xavier McKinney loves to have fun

Xavier McKinney likes to have fun … from his play to his style to his hair.

And the nation’s No. 9 safety recruit can’t wait to have fun at the Under Armour All-America Game in Orlando on Jan. 1.

“I always want to have fun and I’ve always been that way,” he said. “I know when I need to turn on and when I need to just have fun. That’s something I focus on. I don’t try to get too uptight during the game. You always see me smile. I always play hard, but enjoy the game.”

The All-America fun officially began Wednesday when the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to his school, Roswell (Ga.), which is ranked No. 8 in this week’s Super 25.

McKinney donned his All-America jersey in front of his family, friends and teammates.

“It was a great event,” he said. “It was stuff that I hadn’t gotten to do before. Just a great experience for all of us. I had fun and that’s what it’s all about.”

McKinney also has fun with his look, keeping his hair long on top and dying half blondish a few months ago.

“It’s just something different that I’m wanted to try out,” he said. “I haven’t seen anybody with it. There are some crazy hairdos, but this one knocked it out of the park. People have tried it, but I think it looks better on me and I’m going to keep it.

“I like standing out and not being like everyone else. I want to do my own thing.”

He also has stood out to college coaches. McKinney is still setting dates but has announced official visits to Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Clemson.

“I feel like things are going pretty good right now,” he said. “I’m just enjoying the process while it’s here. You only get one chance so you need to enjoy it and do the best you can.

“I’ve liked coaches getting at me and showing me attention and having great communication to develop relationships with them.”

Ohio football coach suspended for postseason for recruiting violation involving elem. school student

A football coach in Ohio has been suspended for the postseason for a recruiting violation involving an elementary school student, according to Newsnet5.com.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced that Archbishop Hoban’s (Akron) Tim Tyrrell will be suspended for the upcoming postseason and will be placed on probation for the remainder of this season and the 2017 season.

In a statement, the OHSAA explained the decision.

As a veteran coach and the current athletic administrator at Archbishop Hoban, we believe that Tim Tyrrell was aware his actions were in violation of the OHSAA’s recruiting bylaw,” said Dave Gray, OHSAA interim commissioner. “Rather than wait until the investigation concluded, which could be toward the end of the season, we felt compelled to announce these penalties now so the team and school have time to make the appropriate accommodations. We appreciate the cooperation of Hoban administrators and hope to conclude this investigation soon.

According to the results of the investigation, Tyrrell made contact with an elementary school student in 2015. Contact with a student 7th grade and above is permissible in Ohio.

Tyrrell, who has been the coach at Hoban since 2013, hasn’t commented on the matter.
