Following in the footsteps of 2016 first-round pick Thon Maker, star high school wing Hamidou Diallo says he is eligible for the NBA Draft in June and is giving it some consideration.

Like Maker — drafted No. 16 overall by the Milwaukee Bucks — Diallo will be a year removed from high school by the time the draft rolls around. Diallo told Scout.com on Thursday that he graduated from Putnam Science (Conn.) last spring and is doing a post-grad year at Putnam.

“It’s definitely something that I’m going to look into,” Diallo told Scout.com when asked about the draft. “It’s my ultimate goal and I don’t feel like it would hurt me looking into. But as of now I want to go to college.”

He later tweeted that he’s sticking with going to college.

A Queens native, the 6-5 Diallo is ranked as the No. 1 shooting guard and No. 10 player overall in the Class of 2017 by Scout.com. He is coming off a dominating summer with the NY Rens on the Nike EYBL circuit, averaging 19.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.

Scout.com reported that since college coaches were allowed to attend open gym Sept. 8, Diallo has met with Arizona’s Sean Miller, Kentucky’s John Calipari, Indiana’s Tom Crean, Kansas’ Bill Self, Connecticut’s Kevin Ollie and UNLV’s Marvin Menzies.

Tazewell (Va.) converts seven consecutive two-point conversions to rally for win

And this is why coaches run those two-point conversion plays in practice.

Tazewell (Va.) beat Rural Retreat, 69-62, in a come-from-behind effort. Tazewell converted its final seven two-point conversions to account for 14 points, according to The Roanoke Times and other outlets.

Running back TJ Kitt was the main reason for Tazewell’s success — he had three touchdowns and six two-point conversions.

The Bulldogs’ go-ahead touchdown came with 30 seconds left as they erased an 11-point fourth quarter deficit.

Some other numbers for you: The combined 131 points is believed to be the fourth-highest score in Virginia High School League history; 58 points were scored in the second half; and the teams totaled 984 yards of offense for the game.

And of course, the second half was played in semi-darkness after the lights on one side of the field went out, causing a delay for 40 minutes. Officials and coaches decided to resume rather than suspend the game.

Another McCaffrey scores: Luke goes 97 yards on kickoff return for Valor Christian (Colo.)

Another McCaffrey has scored a touchdown at Valor Christian in Colorado, and this came in dynamic fashion.

Sophomore Luke McCaffrey — son of former Broncos receiver Ed and brother of Heisman Trophy candidate Christian and Michigan QB commit Dylan — went 97 yards on a kickoff return in Valor’s 42-26 victory against Cherry Creek. It was the longest kickoff return in school history.

It was Luke’s first varsity touchdown. A quarterback by trade, Luke also plays defensive back and on special teams, given that his brother is the team’s starting QB.

“It reminded me two years ago when we played Creek in the state championship and we had a kickoff return for a touchdown,” Valor coach Rod Sherman told CHSAANow.com. “It just showed me a young man who had gotten beat for the touchdown the play before, and then he took the kickoff, took it the distance, and it just shows what kind of competitor he is and how we have to get him on the field.”

Dylan McCaffrey threw for 332 yards and four touchdowns and also has a rushing score, but said the highlight of the night was his brother’s touchdown.

“That was one of the most exciting times I’ve had playing football,” Dylan told CHSAANow.com of Luke’s TD. “It was an awesome play and I’m really proud of him.”

If there was any doubt that LaBryan Ray was a worthy choice for the Under Armour All-America Game, look no further than his performance against Sparkman (Ala.) this season when he had 17 tackles.

Or against Gadsen City when he blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown.

Ray, the state of Alabama’s top prospect from James Clemens High in Madison, received his honorary jersey Friday when the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to his school.

“My dream on the football field is to be the best player I can be and to strive to help my team win a championship on every level,” he said.

Ray, named the state’s 7A Linemen of the Year as a junior, figures to have plenty of championship opportunities in the SEC. He has narrowed his list to Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Florida and Ole Miss.

He has not announced a commitment date, but the Under Armour game on Jan. 1 in Orlando is a possibility.

Echols, a defensive end, and Calvin, a wide receiver, were honored Friday when the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to their school. The Phantoms face Palos Verdes on Friday night.

At nearly 5.4 and 231 pounds, Echols is ranked as the No. 7 weakside defensive end in the Class of 2017 and the No. 13 player in the state of California. He committed to USC in early August after receiving 33 reported offers.

Calvin is 5-9 and has been clocked at less than 4.5 in the 40-yard dash. He has 24 reported offers with Notre Dame and Nebraska among his biggest suitors. He already has taken an official visit to Lincoln.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. takes in alma mater Mooresville (N.C.) game on homecoming

A famous alumnus was in the stands Friday for homecoming when Mooresville (N.C.) beat North Lincoln, 38-7.

NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt Jr. posted a photo with brother Kerry in the stands and noted he was at the game with fiancee Amy Reimann. And just happened to run into Kerry.

Earnhardt was wearing a Mooresville hat and T-shirt. Earnhardt spent some time at military school, but graduated from Mooresville.

Earnhardt is out for the season because of concussion symptoms, but said on his weekly Dirty Mo Radio podcast he’s feeling like a normal person again for the most part, it’s just a matter of getting his brain strong enough to race. He continues to do daily rehabilitation exercises and puts himself in public situations (or “exposure”) to intentionally stress his symptoms.

Earnhardt plans to be at Dover International Speedway in Delaware both Saturday and Sunday, spending the night in his motorhome as he’d do on a normal race weekend. He’ll sit on the No. 88 team’s pit box for the race to watch Jeff Gordon drive.

Despite being out for the season while he recovers from a concussion, Earnhardt has kept up his schedule of sponsor appearances.

LAS VEGAS — The streak lives on.

No. 1 Bishop Gorman went for the two-point conversion in the third overtime to outlast No. 9 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale), 25-24, on Friday.

Gorman, the two-time defending Super 25 champions, ran its winning streak to 45 consecutive games.

Initially, the Gaels were planning to go for the extra point and the tie, but a penalty against Aquinas on the extra point inched the ball closer. Gorman coach Kenny Sanchez then opted for the two and Biaggio Ali Walsh scored the winning points.

In the third overtime, Aquinas receiver Jonathan Moore was left alone on the left side and took the ball to the 1-yard line, and Mike Epstein drove in for the touchdown on the next play.

Gorman answered on the first play of its possession with a 10-yard TD from Martell to Jalen Nailor, setting up the game-winning two-point conversion.

Neither team scored in the second overtime. Bubba Bolden deflected Marco Salani’s 25-yard field goal attempt for Aquinas and Gorman was stopped on downs. The Gaels had the ball on fourth down with the nose of the ball just outside the goal line but could not score. Middle linebacker Farrell Hester was inserted at fullback, but Aquinas defense stuffed the line.

In the first overtime, St. Thomas Aquinas’ Jordan Merrell caught a swing pass from Jake Allen and dove into the end zone on the first place. Gorman answered with an 8-yard TD pass to Nailor on a sliding catch over the middle on fourth down.

Salani’s 24-yard field goal as time expired forced the overtime. Aquinas took over at its own 39 with 3:39 remaining and moved inside the 10 with help from a gutsy scramble from Allen and a pass interference penalty. Aquinas ran three consecutive running plays with a first-and-10 from the 14 with 1:14 remaining.

Gorman had taken the lead 10-7 on a 16-yard touchdown reception by Brevin Jordan with 7:35 left in the fourth quarter. The scoring drive began at the 20-yard line after Bubba Bolden’s interception in the end zone.

On that play, Aquinas star receiver, Trevon Grimes, injured his knee. He was helped off the field and then wheeled on a stretcher from the sideline to the locker room by medical personnel. Grimes, an Ohio State commit, had scored Aquinas’ touchdown.

In a result that jumps off the page, Hesperia Christian (Calif.) downed New Designs University Park (Los Angeles) by a final margin of 101-6 in an eight-man football game Friday night.

According to MaxPreps, that total is one point shy of the highest score in eight man football this season. Bloomfield (Neb.) posted 102 points.  The final in that game was 102-21.

New Designs has not played football in recent years and the program is off to an 0-6 start in its return.

Hesperia Christian moves to 5-0 with the victory.

'Kick in the Dark' is game-winner for Rogers (Ala.)

At least we can safely say this was not an attempt to ice the kicker.

As Rogers (Florence, Ala.) was getting into position to attempt the game-winning field goal in the final minute against Deshler (Tuscumbia), the stadium lights went out.

The game was at Rogers so it’s not like the home team was trying to freeze its own kicker.

After a 10-minute delay, the lights came back on. After a 4-yard run, Rogers called timeout to get the kicking unit on the field with four seconds left. Deshler then took consecutive timeouts to actually ice the kicker.

But Bryant Wallace went out and drilled the 30-yarder to keep Rogers unbeaten.

“I knew I was going to make the kick when I walked out there,” the senior kicker told the Times Daily. “We practice this situation all the time, so the pressure didn’t get to me at all.”

Donovan Peoples-Jones and Donovan Johnson, teammates at Cass Tech (Detroit) received their honorary jerseys for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at halftime of a game against rival King (Detroit) on Saturday.

The event as part of the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance happened on the field.

The Army All-American Bowl is Jan. 7 in San Antonio and will be broadcast on NBC.

Peoples-Jones, the No. 1 wide receiver in the Class of 2017, gained 83 yards on slant route and caught two passes for 98 yards in the 31-18 victory. As always, he was the focus of the defense and he had another Army All-American, Ambry Thomas, on him for most of the game.

That helped open the door on offense for Johnson, who had a 69-yard TD run and an 82-yard touchdown reception. But Johnson was selected to the Army Bowl for his defense as a cornerback.

Getting your Army Bowl jersey, handily beating your rival in the biggest regular-season game on the schedule and playing a role in the victory. Seems like a good day for the two Cass stars.

Cathy Self-Morgan, who led Duncanville (Texas) to the Super 25 girls basketball national championship last season, is stepping down as the school’s athletic director, a move that will allow her to remain coach.

Self-Morgan told The Dallas Morning News that the school district needs a full-time athletic director who can fulfill other commitments during the time when she is coaching.

“I think the district is in a really good position,” she told the newspaper, adding she will remain in the position until a successor is found. “It’s going to be an easy transition for the next person to step in, and I will support that person.”

Duncanville went 39-0 last season and have won state titles in 2003, 2012, 2013 and last season. The American Family Insurance ALL-USA Coach of the Year in 2013, she has won 1,061 games in 38 seasons. She added athletic director duties in 2010.

Five-star linebacker Dylan Moses committed to Alabama on Sunday after returning from an official visit, he announced on Twitter.

Moses, who attends IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), was ranked as the top player in the Class of 2017 for much of the past several years and is currently ranked in the top 5. He had reported offers from 39 programs.

“After talking to my parents, I’ve decided to shut my recruitment down,” he wrote. “I will not be taking anymore visits. I want to thank every coach that offered me and took interest in me and a player/person. I have decided to commit to the University of Alabama! Roll Tide!”

The commitment comes after a visit that he “really enjoyed,” according to his Twitter feed. Moses and his father had both tweeted positive impressions during the visit.

A member of the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Preseason Defense, Moses had planned to announce his commitment on Dec. 16 and then moved the date to Jan. 1 to announce at the Under Armour All-America Game. Turns out neither of those dates will apply.

Moses was initially offered by Alabama in February 2013 when he was in eighth grade.

A Baton Rouge native, he had committed to LSU but decommitted in August 2015. LSU was the first school to offer him back in the fall of 2012 and Moses has been on the national recruiting radar since.

His commitment gives Alabama three of the top five players in the class, according to the 247Sports Composite ranking, including No. 1 overall player Najee Harris, a running back from Antioch, Calif., and No. 5 Alex Leatherwood, an offensive tackle from Pensacola, Fla.

Asked his reaction, Leatherwood said, “Savages want to play with savages.”
