St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) wide receiver Trevon Grimes has announced his high school career is over after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Friday’s 25-24 triple-overtime loss to top-ranked Bishop Gorman.

Grimes is ranked as the No. 3 wide receiver recruit in the Class of 2017 by the 247Sports Composite and is an Ohio State commit. He is ranked as the No. 16 player overall.

He was injured on a play in the end zone that resulted in an interception. He was helped off the field and then put on a stretcher and taken to the locker room.

In an odd coincidence, this is the second consecutive season that an Ohio State commit from Aquinas torn an ACL during his senior year on high school. Defensive end Nick Bosa was injured last fall.

Jalen Reagor, the four-star wide receiver from Waxahachie (Texas), has been a human highlight film through the first half of the season. He seems to make a jaw-dropping play every week, thanks in part to his 4.41 speed.

Reagor had 64 catches for more than 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.

Here are highlights from our partners at Scout.com from his senior year thus far.

Texas UIL committee sets revised pitch count limit

All high school players will be limited to 110 pitches in a game, according to a recommendation made by the Texas UIL medical advisory committee, the Dallas Morning News reported.

A player also would be limited to a total of 110 pitches in a postseason series, which would include postponements that require games on consecutive days.

Junior high pitchers would be limited to a total of 85 pitches.

The revised recommendation follows an initial plan that would have different limits based on the age of the player.

The committee said the home team would designate the official pitch counter and the counter would not be allowed in the dugout.

The proposal must be passed by the UIL legislative council, but as the Morning News pointed out, every recommendation by the medical advisory council has been approved in the last 15 years.

The new limits are expected to go into effect this spring.

The National Federation of State High School Associations passed a rule over the summer that mandated states have pitch limits for the 2017 season, although each state can determine what those limits are.

Brandon Steburg from Papillion-La Vista in Nebraska was injured in a football game less than two weeks ago and required brain surgery.

Monday, he described how he felt just before halftime when he came to the sideline.

“I put my hand on my head and told (my coach), you know, ‘I can’t do this anymore,'” Steburg told KETV in Omaha on Monday. “I don’t know what’s wrong. I was dizzy. I was disoriented. I didn’t know where I was at. I didn’t know what I was doing. It was a scary time. I threw up a lot.”

His coach said he noticed on the game film that Steburg appeared to be moving more slowly after a play in which the quarterback landed on top of him and then Steburg took himself out of the game.

Sternberg needed surgery to alleviate pressure on his brain and was in a medically induced coma after surgery. His family said days later that the brain swelling had decreased and the brain was back in place.

“I’m very thankful to be alive,” Steburg said. “I’m very fortunate. I’m blessed by all my friends and family. Everybody whose been praying for me. I’ve got plenty of people behind me.”

The school and community came together during Friday’s game to help raise money for the family and show their support.

Central (Phenix City, Ala.) star linebacker Markail Benton, one of the best players in the state, is used to being in the limelight. He was front and center again Tuesday, but in a slightly different venue.

Benton was honored at his school as part of the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance.

“It was amazing,” he said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for me to play this game, and I just had a good time in front of my family, friends, and the school.:

The Under Armour game is Jan. 1 in Orlando and will be televised by ESPN.

“It will be great exposure,” Benton said. “Being there with so much talent and going against guys I’ll be going against at the collegiate level.”

Benton, an Alabama commit, is aware of the challenge ahead of him in Tuscaloosa, but he expects to compete right away.

“Going in and focusing, practicing hard and trying to earn that spot,” he said.

And how can he set himself apart?

“Just my work ethic,” Benton said. “Plus, I have great speed playing inside linebacker. These days teams like to line up in the spread with a little scatback in the backfield, and I can cover the back well out of the backfield and come downhill and make tackles.”

Benton credits his position coach, Adrian Lyles, as being his biggest inspiration.

“I’ve known him since I was little, and he always told me that I could be great in football one day,” Benton said. “And he pushed me everyday. I know there were days when he would come to get me to work out at the field even when I didn’t want to work out. He stays on me about everything and makes sure I’m up to par.”
