Oklahoma commit Kennedy Brooks runs for 226 yards ... in first quarter

In his first game since committing to Oklahoma, Texas running back Kennedy Brooks had as more rushing yards in the first quarter than most running backs have in a game.

Brooks ran for 226 yards in the first 12 minutes as Mansfield (Texas) beat Arlington Martin 47-28.

He finished with 323 yards and four touchdowns, including scoring runs of 80 and 42 yards in the first quarter.

Brooks, apparently, was a bit miffed that Martin scheduled Mansfield as its homecoming game.

“You can say that, but really I was kind of mad that Martin put us as their homecoming,” he told the Dallas Morning News. “That was disrespectful to our team.”

As a junior, Brooks ran for 3,522 yards on 431 carries and 42 touchdowns.

“He has a skill set nobody else has,” coach Daniel Maberry said this week.

Volunteer youth coach fired for making boy run laps after he bullied teammate

A Connecticut volunteer football coach for players in fourth through sixth grade has been fired for punishing a child for allegedly bullying one of his teammates by making him run laps, according WTNH.

Todd Kennedy, coach of Durham Middlefield’s football team in Durham, Conn., said he talked to the entire team about bullying, but when he got word that it happened again, he spoke to the alleged bully in front of the team.

The boy denied it, but Kennedy had him run a few laps. According to the report, Kennedy then praised the boy for running without complaining.

Two of Kennedy’s sons played on the team, although they no longer do.

The league board questioned his handling of the incident and then told him he could no longer volunteer.

“(One of the board members) said why did you feel that you were qualified to handle this bullying incident? I’m like because I’m a father,” Kennedy told WTVH.

He said he was never trained on how to handle bullying as a coach and now feels like the league is blaming him for the lack of training.

“They never heard from me, so now you’ve got these children that I’ve been coaching since August and all of a sudden their coach just disappears,” Kennedy said. “What I’m going to miss the most is seeing what we would have done this year, seeing if we would have gotten to the championship game.”

Shannon Riso has pulled her son from her team as well.

“Bullying is OK — that’s the message I got,” Riso told WTVH. “That’s why my son is not going to play for them. I want him to be around better role models than that.”

Members of the league board have not responded to requests for comment from WTNH.

The word that comes to mind for talent evaluators when they see Marlon Tuipulotu is disruptive.

Ranked as the No. 8 defensive tackle in the Class of 2017 by the 247Sports Composite, Tuipulotu plays inside and outside on the defensive line for Central (Independence, Ore.) but is likely to play inside for Washington.

At 6-2.5, 295, he has quickness and big-time athleticism.

Before he gets to the Huskies, though, he will finish his high school career at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 7 in San Antonio. The Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to high school Monday to present him with an honorary jersey in front of family and friends.

“He’s very good taking on a double team, shows a relentless, non-stop motor and he very well could be the best athlete with the most agility of any interior lineman out West,” Scout.com’s Greg Biggins said. “His superior quickness should allow him to develop in to a very good inside pass rusher and if you can find an inside pass rush, it can completely change around a defense.”

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said Monday that there would be no discipline or additional fallout from a Friday night incident involving quarterback Chad Kelly at his brother’s high school game.

Casey Kelly took a late hit out of bounds, according to reports, and Chad headed on to the field. Chad Kelly, wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, was restrained in an effort to get him back to the sideline.

Casey is a sophomore quarterback at St. Joseph’s Collegiate, which was playing Bishop Timon on Friday night.

Freeze said he had spoken with Chad and his family Friday night in the immediate aftermath of the incident.

“He was very apologetic that it brought a bad light on him and our program,” Freeze told reporters Monday. “But I think the events that happened could have happened to a lot of us. He know he cannot continue to do that … ”

Kelly said Monday he regretted running onto the field.

The game was suspended after the brawl and officials had to be escorted off the field by Buffalo police, according to reports. Police also helped the St. Joe’s team to its buses to leave the stadium. No arrests were made.

No decision has been made on how to handle the game. Conference officials were waiting for the game report to make any determinations.

Coach fired for punishing alleged bully: 'The outpouring of support has been overwhelming'

$

The Connecticut coach fired for punishing a child for allegedly bullying one of his teammates by making him run laps says he feels vindicated and has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support once his story went national.

EARLIER: Coach fired for making boy run laps after he bullied teammate

Todd Kennedy, coach of Durham Middlefield’s football team in Durham, Conn., had talked to the team about bullying and, afterwards, heard that one of his players was bullying someone at school. He spoke with the alleged bully in front of the team, had him run a few laps, and then praised the boy for running without complaining.

He was later fired by the football league’s board.

“I was teaching those kids how to be men and how I was taught, how to be a man,” Kennedy told WTNH. “They just made a bad decision. They’re all good people. They all thought they were making the right decision for the children in their organization.”

Still, Kennedy says that he has received loads of support, and he feels vindicated for his actions.

“The outpouring of support has been overwhelming,” said Kennedy.

Regardless, Kennedy doesn’t expect to be back coaching, even though he would like to be.

“I don’t think I’m going to be asked to come back,” he told the news station. “I mean, would I like to? Absolutely. I mean, if they offered I would.”
