No. 25 Liberty (Henderson, Nev.) held Basic to to minus-18 yards rushing and forced four turnovers in a 51-15 victory Thursday night to clinch the Southeast Division title.

Liberty led 23-15 at halftime, but Ethan Dedeaux scored on a 79-yard run and Darion Acohido returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown in the opening minutes of the third quarter for a 37-15 advantage.

Dedeaux had five catches for 127 yards, including a 65-yard TD reception.  Acohido also scored on a 7-yard TD run in the second half.

Liberty quarterback Kenyon Oblad threw for 295 yards and two TDs.

And there was plenty of defense by Liberty (8-1).

“Our defense is good,” coach Rich Muraco told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “When we align and run our right assignments, they’re very talented and fast and physical. Pretty much all year against in-state teams, we’ve held them to two touchdowns or less. I’m proud of those guys.”

Kary Vincent Jr. is among six LSU commits scheduled to play in the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 1 and the Texas cornerback got his official welcome Friday when the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to Memorial High (Port Arthur, Texas).

Vincent received his honorary jersey in front of friends, family and classmates.

“I know that I’m not playing for myself. I was never,” Vincent told SEC Country Friday. “It always turns out great when you play for something more than just yourself; you’re unstoppable.

“It’s a dream come true. Growing up, I never imagined I’d be playing in this game. To have this opportunity, it’s truly a blessing and I plan on taking full advantage.”

Ranked as the No. 2 cornerback prospect in the nation and No. 23 player overall by ESPN, Vincent committed to the Tigers in July. However, he is expected to make an unofficial vist to Texas for this weekend’s game.

Dan Bangura had a goal in mind for his junior season: Run for 2,000 yards.

The junior running back at Harvest Prep in Canal Winchester, Ohio, had accomplished that by just after midseason, so now what? 3,000 yards?

“I haven’t thought about that,” he said. “I’ve passed my goal and we’re working on our team goals. We’re about to get to the playoffs.”

Bangura has 2,753 yards through nine games – although it’s closer to seven games of actual playing time given some lopsided victories.

That total makes him the nation’s 11-man football rushing leader, according to statistics compiled by MaxPreps. With 220 carries, he’s averaged 12.5 yards per carry. He has at least 300 yards in six games, 281 and 295 in two others, and 160 in the season opener when he missed the second half with an ankle injury.

“Last year, I had 1,800 yards and this year, I wanted to set a higher goal,” he said. “I want to get better each year and so I set 2,000. I wanted to get that before I went any further. I wasn’t thinking about 3,000.”

What he fails to mention about those 1,800 yards from a year ago is that he missed the last two games of the regular season and first round of the playoffs with a high ankle sprain. He returned in a second-round loss and had more than 250 yards on the ground.

“The great thing about him is he’s extremely humble and knows this is a team game,” coach Milan Smith said.  “He prepares every day as if the opportunities are limited and gives everything to seize the moment.

“As good a football player as he is – and he’s one of the best I’ve coached in 24 years — he’s an even better person. He’s taken it all in every day as if he’s last kid in the nation in rushing, not the first. He’s the type of player who you love to see get acknowledged.”

Bangura’s pursuit of the national rushing title, Smith said, has been “exciting, it’s created a buzz around the school. … The players have bought into him and into the national exposure for our kids, our team, our school and our building.”

Bangura says his teammates “are very excited about it and happy for me. We work as a team every day in practice. They congratulate me and I thank them. They’re just as excited as I am.”

Harvest Prep is perennially one of the top rushing teams in Ohio – “It’s who we are and what we do,” Smith says – and runs a tempo offense with a goal of 80 offensive snaps a game. Bangura has carried the ball more than 30 times in only two games, both early in the season.

“If you look at the numbers you’d think he touches the ball on every play, but it’s only about a third of the time,” Smith said.

Harvest Prep, located on the east side of Columbus, got off to an 0-3 start but has won its last six heading into the regular season finale Saturday against Fairfield Christian Academy (Lancaster).

The school had 3,000 rushing yards two years ago, except that was split between two players – one with 1,800 and the other with 1,200. Bangura has a chance to do it all alone.

His longest run of the season came last week – 81 yards on Harvest Prep’s first offensive play of the game. It was a chance to get out in the open and run for Bangura, who also ran the opening leg of the Harvest Prep 4×100 meter relay team that made states the last two years.

“It was nice,” he said. “I’m used to running hard in practice every day. It felt good. … I look forward to making big runs and it helped build some momentum.”

The biggest concession to his offensive workload has been that he no longer starts on defense, instead playing in spots.

“The irony is he is probably the best DB we have in coverage,” Smith said.

Bangura has been playing football since he was 6, and always enjoyed running with the ball. That hasn’t changed.

“Whatever I can do to help the team is what I want to do,” he said, but allows, “Right now, I’m liking offense better.” And then he laughed.

An honor roll student, Bangura was voted as a junior captain.

“He’s dedicated to his craft,” Smith said. “He’s really done the right things in the classroom and on and off the field.”

The video doesn’t lie when it comes to Arizona kicker Brandon Ruiz.

Ruiz, from Williams Fields (Gilbert, Ariz.), posted videos of himself kicking field goals from 70-plus yards in practice over the summer. His midseason highlights from his senior show him routinely kicking the ball into the end zone on kickoffs, making long field goals and even punting.

Now, he’ll get to show off those skills on national television in the Jan. 7 Army All-American Game in San Antonio. The game will be broadcast on NBC.

Ruiz, Alabama commit who is ranked as the No. 2 kicker in the nation, received his honorary jersey Friday when the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to his school.

“It’s a huge honor and has always been a huge goal of mine to play in the Army All-American game,” Ruiz told AZCentral after accepting the invitation. “It’s an honor to wear the Army logo and represent.

“It was also a goal of mine to be the first All-American in Williams Field history. I’m excited to represent my school in January.”

For a moment, it looked as if the Allen Eagles were on track to suffer their first loss of the season.

That moment has passed.

Allen, behind QB Mitchell Jonke, dodged an upset Friday, beating Plano (Texas) East 38-31.

The Panthers took a 31-24 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Jonke answered with two scores to give Allen a lead it wouldn’t relinquish. He finished the game with 228 yards passing and two scores, and added on 123 yards on the ground and the go-ahead touchdown.

Michael Newsome’s interception sealed the victory.

Allen, No. 4 in the latest Super 25 rankings, will face Wylie (Texas) next week.

The cheerleaders at McClain (Greenfield, Ohio) displayed a banner before a game with the Hillsboro (Ohio) Indians referencing the Trail of Tears.

McClain was playing at Hillsboro. The banner says, “Hey Indians, Get Ready for A Trail of TEARS Part 2.”

The Trail of Tears is the name assigned to the forced removal of Native Americans from the southeastern portion of the United States to areas west of the Mississippi River. More than four thousand people died.

According to WHIO, the school posted an apology on its Facebook page late Friday, but then removed it.

Thomas Snider, a former wrestling coach at Torrance (Calif.), was sentenced Friday after being convicted of molesting 25 male students.

The 48-year-old will likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Prosecutors say Snider would do “skin checks” on the students, which would lead to him touching their genitals. It was also accused he’d watch them shower and give massages.

A statement from a parent of a former student was read in court, according to ABC7.

“I will never forgive you. You are an evil and vile excuse of a human being. You are a monster that hunted and abused our children like prey in the wild. You deserve every ounce of suffering and pain coming your way, and I pray you die slowly and that your soul burns in hell.

Neither Snider nor his family spoke on his behalf during the trial.

ALL-USA Watch: LSU QB commit Myles Brennan finishes regular season without throwing an interception

St. Stanislaus (Bay St. Louis, Miss.) QB Myles Brennan had a pretty solid season, to say the least.

The senior, an American Family Insurance ALL-USA preseason selection and Under Armour All-American, finished the regular season with 40 touchdowns and zero interceptions.

His tight end Chase Rogers, meanwhile, tied a state record Friday with his 43rd touchdown reception. The Tennessee commit caught three scores it St. Stanislaus’ 20-7 victory against Pass Christian.

Brennan, an LSU commit, has remained committed to the school despite the firing of Les Miles and Cam Cameron, two coaches he built close relationships with.

When I committed I not only committed to Les and Cam, but I also committed to the school,” Brennan told USA TODAY High School Sports earlier this month. “That’s a big part of it. I just fell in love with not only the football aspect but the school itself.

“Being a Tiger excites me every time I think about it.”

Nikolas Toocheck, a 13-year-old from West Chester, Pa., will be the youngest runner in Sunday’s Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C.

But that’s nothing new. Toocheck completed a marathon on every continent by the time he was 11 to benefit Operation Worm.

His new goal is to run a marathon in all 50 states to raise awareness about blindness in children. According to a news release, an estimated 500,000 children become blind each year, but 80 percent of blindness and low vision issues can be prevented or cured with access to proper eye care. Money raised will support Seva’s pediatric programs.

Toocheck has completed marathons in 42 states as part of his Running the World for Children: Stateside Campaign and his plan is to reach No. 50 next summer in San Francisco. Overall, the Marine Corps Marathon will be his 50th.

He started a campaign called Running the World for Children when he was 9 and has raised $42,000.

Toocheck’s father is an eye doctor who has volunteered around the world.

“I can’t imagine not being able to see,” Toocheck said. “I really hope that I can help change that for a lot of kids.”

More information about Toocheck’s goal can be found at www.nikrunstheworld.com.

Temple (Texas) wide receiver Xavier Johnson caught a crossing route and was running for more yardage when he was knocked out of bounds by a College Station player.

Unfortunately, he was knocked into KCEN’s Jessica Morrey, who was shooting the game from the sideline. The camera goes flying when Morrey hits the turf.

You can see the play here:

Morrey tweeted that she was recovering and a colleague joked that he would be handling the anchor duties following Morrey’s “near-death.”

While the video shows Johnson walking away and moving to the next play, he came over after the drive to check on Morrey and the two exchanged messages on Twitter as the video of the hit spread.

Some of Morrey’s colleagues in the media also weighed in:

College Station won the game 17-16 with a missed extra point being the difference and won the outright District 18-5A championship.

Jim Harbaugh admits that he initially found Michigan’s “Train” formation when one of his assistants was looking at video from a Colorado high school. That school is Chatfield High School in Littleton.

The “train” has headed south, although the coaches at Irvin in El Paso call their version the “Centipede.”

And whatever you call it, as noted by MaxPreps, the unique look went for a touchdown in a 42-27 loss at Bowie as Adam Knutson connected with Devon Driscoll for a 60-yard touchdown.

The inspirational, heartwarming story of Colerain's (Cincinnati) 4-foot-5, 75-pound receiver

Since his birth, Noah Kennedy has been fighting for his life. Doctors didn’t expect him to live to age 3.

On Friday, he started for the Colerain (Cincinnati) football team on his senior night.

Kennedy was born with several health issues, and he’s in and out of doctor’s offices throughout the year. But he has always wanted to be a part of the Colerain football team, and he has spent his high school career as a team helper.

But on Friday he finally got a chance to be on the field, starting in Colerain’s 48-20 victory against Oak Hills.

“It felt amazing to be on that field and play against our good friends from Oak Hills. I was absolutely speechless, and it was truly a dream come true,” Kennedy told ElevenWarriors.com. “When I was younger, my mom was told that I wouldn’t make it past my 2nd birthday. Then she was told that I wouldn’t live past 4, then 8, then 13 and then 16. And here I am at 17, about to turn 18, proving all of those doctors (wrong).

“I was told that I was never allowed to play contact sports, so I simply accepted that. But I wanted to do something with football when I got to high school, so I joined the football team my freshman year as a football team manager. I had worked hard and dedicated my life to this team to get that moment, and I loved every minute of it.”

Not only did he get the chance to start, but he was also tasked with sealing the victory.

All in all, not a bad night.
