The Shawn Robinson Bowl was a victory for the quarterback’s new school against his former school as No. 7 DeSoto (Texas) downed Guyer (Denton, Texas), 51-17 on Friday night.
Robinson, who transferred after his mother became the girls basketball coach at DeSoto, threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in the victory.
A TCU commit, Robinson threw for 112 yards and ran for 94 as DeSoto outgained Guyer by a margin of 395 to 240.
Robinson has been respectful of his former coaches and teammates throughout the week, although DeSoto asked him not to do an interviews. Earlier this week, DeSoto coach Todd Peterman told The Dallas Morning News, “People can make something out of it if they want, but there’s nothing to it on our side. It’s nothing we’ve talked about as a team. I meet with Shawn every day, and it’s something that has never even been brought up.”
Along with Robinson, Kelan Walker ran for three touchdowns – 1, 3 and 4 yards – on 10 carries.
Noah Cain ran for 129 yards and both Guyer touchdowns. Guyer attempted 14 passes, gaining 20 yards.
