Guess you could see this one brewing.
Lanett (Ala.) was leading by 15 points and was trying to run out the last minute of the game, but Horseshoe Bend coaches called timeouts after plays on first and second down, according to an account in the Opelika-Auburn News.
Lanett coach Clifford Story did not appreciate that tactic and told his coaches to have his quarterback Tr Story, also his son, throw a deep ball. The result was a 49-yard TD. Lanett then called a trick play on the PAT that failed. And then went for an onside kick.
The final score ended up as 38-17.
“We’re trying to get the game over, and they wanted to keep calling timeouts. So let’s just score again then,” coach Story told the Opelika-Auburn News. “All of it just escalated from there.”
Coaches will taunting each other across the field in the final moments and Story said Horseshoe Bend coach Jason Franklin refused to shake hands and “cursed him out.” Story added that Franklin then cursed out a Lanett assistant coach and made physical contact with him.
Franklin declined to comment on the incident after the game.

“It could have been ugly,” Story said. “That’s just not the kind of thing we do here at Lanett.”
