VIDEO: Crenshaw (Calif.) QB Daiyan Henley makes like Lamar Jackson

Crenshaw (Los Angeles) beat Venice 40-20 in the first round of the CIF City Section Division I playoffs on Thursday night. The big reason was quarterback Daiyan Henley.

He was 26-for-33 passing for 329 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 165 yards on 16 carries with three touchdowns.

“He’s carried this team,” Crenshaw coach Robert Garrett told The Los Angeles Times. “I’m proud of his accomplishment. He stepped up big time.”

Here are the highlights from #D1Bound, including a 59-yard run in the fourth quarter.

East (Salt Lake City) sets Utah record for rushing yards, total yards in a season

East (Salt Lake City) is headed to the 4A state final in Utah and set a pair of impressive state season records along the way.

East ran for 644 yards — and 500 in the first half — of a 64-13 victory against Maple Mountain to become the first team in state history to rush for 6,000 yards in a season. East now has 6,496 with a game to play.

The program also became the first in state history to break 7,000 total yards in a season with 7,007.

While East did add passing touchdowns against Maple Mountain, the ground game was still key with scoring runs of 60, 77 and 70 yards. Jaylen Warren finished with 218 yards and three scores.

“It’s all my linemen,” Warren told the Salt Lake Tribune. “We couldn’t do it without our linemen, so I’ve got to give them all the credit. They deserve it.”

East looks to successfully defend its state title next week against Springville.

No. 7 Allen (Texas) retook the lead with less than 10 minutes remaining and then added a later touchdown to beat Trinity (Euless, Texas), 34-25, on Friday in a Class 6A, Division I, Region I, bi-district game .

Trinity’s Courage Keihn scored touchdowns on runs of 15 and 9 yards to turn a 24-13 deficit into a 25-24 lead in the opening seconds of the fourth quarter.

The Eagles (11-0) responded by driving the ball down to the 2-yard line and opted for a 20-yard field goal on fourth-and-goal to take a 27-25 edge with 9:36 remaining.

Trinity moved the ball into Allen territory but a third-and-short play that netted a first down was called back by penalty and Trinity had to punt. A short punt gave Allen the ball at its own 35-yard line. Using its ground game, the Eagles ran time off the clock before quarterback Mitchell Jonke scored on a 5-yard run in the last two minutes to set the final margin.

Brock Sturges finished with 127 yards and a touchdown. Jonke passed for 99 yards and a TD and ran for 42 yards and a score.

According to the Dallas Morning News, special teams were key: Allen had two field goals, got a 92-yard kickoff return from Taj Bickham and pinned Trinity inside the 10 three times.

For Trinity, Keihn had 158 yards and three touchdowns and Greg Garner ran for 112 yards.

Trinity outgained Allen 357-300, including 312-201 on the ground.

Allen advances to meet Belton.

VIDEO: Miracle lateral play after Hail Mary lifts McKeesport (Pa.)

What a finish!

A Hail Mary caught five yards short of the end zone. A lateral by a receiver who was pushing to the end zone. And a touchdown with no time left on the clock.

McKeesport is headed to the WPIAL 5A final in Western Pennsylvania for the first time since 2005 with a 41-38 victory against Gateway (Monroeville, Pa.).

Quarterback Jayvaun Shears threw the pass from midfield that was caught by Layton Jordan, who then found J.J. Harper. Harper ran the final five yards for the score.

“I was still pushing,” Jordan told TribLive.com. “I was fighting to stay on my feet until my players came to push me.”

Said McKeesport coach Matt Miller: “Somebody’s shining down on us. That had to be some kind of divine intervention to make that happen.”

Here is the play:

Levelland (Texas) quarterback Nick Gerber’s pursuit of a state record for touchdown passes continued Friday night.

Gerber had eight TD tosses — and threw for 439 yards — in Levelland’s 63-12 victory against Mountain View in a 4A Division I bi-district game.

He now has 67 on the season, four short of the state record of 71, set by Shelton Eppler of Navasota in 2014. Travis Quintanilla of Refugio threw for 68 touchdowns in 2013.

Levelland faces Decatur in the next round.

Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) coach savages officials after playoff loss: 'They choked'

$

Even when college and pro coaches don’t like calls made by officials, you rarely hear them go too far off the script for fear of fines.

Well, high school football is a little bit different and Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) head coach Vito Campanile let it all out after his team lost 14-13 to Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.).

As captured by NJ.com, on a third-and-10 play in the final seconds, Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.) completed a pass along the sideline and the receiver was pushed out of bounds. Rather than stopping the clock, the officials kept it running. Seton Hall Prep lined up for a quick spike, but did not realize it had come up short of the first down. So the spike on fourth down turned the ball over on downs.

Here is a video of the play but note it was posted by Seton Hall Prep by way of its HUDL account and the title came with the video.

Now that you have seen the play, here is what Campanile said via NJ.com:

“It’s almost one of things like the play is too big of a situation for the ref.  That’s basically what it comes down to – they choked. It’s too big of a situation for them.” …

“We would have had a 41-yard field goal with 15 seconds left on fourth-and-one, with the wind at our back and a kid that makes that kick every day in practice. Just let the kids finish the game on the field.

“Obviously, they’re a prestigious program – I’m not taking anything away from those guys – it’s just making that call in that situation is just like you’ve never played football a day in your life. How you can do that, when these people invest this much time of their life into that game – both teams – it demands an explanation.

“It was so indescribable that the people from Don Bosco were actually saying to me, ‘That was amazing that that happened. It was pretty indescribable. It’s just really, really hard for our kids to accept that.

“If we don’t make the kick, we don’t make the kick and all is forgiven, right?. But in that situation, you’ve got to let the kids finish the game. This is like a heavyweight championship fight. This is Group 4 parochial playoffs, the defending state champs who are basically the epicenter of New Jersey football for the last 15 years.

“For us to go up there and win that game – it’s a program-changer anyway, but the fact that they don’t let it finish on the field, I can’t accept it. I just can’t. I can’t look at my kids and say they got a fair shake at that one. I can’t.”

T.J. Pledger, ranked as the nation’s No. 3 all-purpose back in the Class of 2018, ran for five touchdowns and 130 yards on 26 carries as Chaminade (West Hills, Calif.) bested Long Beach Poly 50-14 in a CIF Southern Section Division 1 first-round game.

“T.J. in the backfield is insane,” quarterback Ryan Stevens told The Los Angeles Times. “He runs over anybody.”

He also can be elusive as he showed with this spin move on his way to the end zone.

Chaminade faces Centennial (Corona) in the quarterfinals after the No. 10 Huskies’ 55-24 win against JSerra on Friday night.

Against Saint Frances, he went 11-for-14 for 174 yards through the air and ran for 21 yards.

Punting is in Zach Feagles’ genes.

Zach is the youngest son of Jeff Feagles, the NFL recordholder for most punting yards, total punts and punts inside the 20. Jeff was a two-time Pro Bowler and a member of the Super Bowl champion New York Giants.

The younger Feagles will get the chance to show off his punting skills at the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 1 in Orlando.

Zach Feagles received his honorary jersey Tuesday when the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance came to Ridgewood High (N.J.). He was honored in front of family, friends and classmates.

However, Feagles is not a typical punter. At 6-2, 205 pounds, he also plays fullback and enjoys running the ball and delivering hits in Ridgewood’s wing-T offense. He had 11 touchdowns as a junior despite missing three games and has 18 touchdown this season with a healthy 6.7 yards per carry.

Still, it’s his right leg will be his football future. Feagles is ranked as the No. 4 punter by Kohl’s Kicking Camps, which manages the selections of specialists for the Under Armour game.

After finishing his high school career in New Jersey, Feagles will follow his father’s footsteps by heading to the University of Miami. Jeff Feagles is the most decorated punter in Hurricanes history and the only punter in the school’s Sports Hall of Fame.

Ranked as the No. 1 recruit in Rhode Island, Paye is a 6-4, 226-pound defensive end who is committed to Michigan and the East winner. He beat Kevin Jarvis, a Michigan State commit who is a 6-5, 340-pound offensive tackle/guard from Maine South (Park Ridge, Ill.). Paye received 34.47% of the vote.

One of the most highly ranked high school football players in Kentucky is heading out of state to Alabama.

Jedrick Wills from Lafayette (Lexington, Ky.) announced his commitment Tuesday via Bleacher Report video, changing into different suits that were either the color or had logos of his finalists. Family and friends expressed displeasure with each suit until he came out with the Alabama suit. He picked the Tide with a white suit that had the lining filled with Alabama logos when he opened his coat.

Losing Wills — whose high school is about two miles from Kentucky’s stadium — is a blow to the Wildcats, although Alabama was thought to be the leader throughout the process.

Wills recently received his Under Armour All-America Game honorary jersey and is the only player scheduled to participate from Kentucky.

Wills, who is 6-5 and 318, is ranked as the No. 6 guard in the nation by ESPN. Meanwhile, Rivals ranks him Wills as the No. 16 overall recruit and No. 4 offensive tackle.

He chose Alabama over Kentucky, Michigan, Tennessee and Notre Dame, among others.
