Back in November, we shared with you the lip dub video to end all lip dub videos courtesy of Broken Arrow High in Oklahoma.

The video took three weeks to film. The final version is 12 minutes an YouTube muted a few songs.

The choir, cheerleaders, dance team, drama club, soccer teams, baseball and softball teams, swim teams, golf teams, wrestling team and football team — along with their administrators — flawlessly lip sync a mashup of Kanye West’s “We Don’t Care,” Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song,” Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance,” Taz Da Realist’s “All of the Lights,” Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Downtown,” Shawn Mendes’ “Stitches,” Major Lazer’s “Lean On,” Fetty Wap’s “My Way,” Silento’s “Watch Me,” Kanye’s “All Day” and Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop.”

So, how did they do it? Well, here is the behind the scenes footage:

American Heritage football to face Booker T. Washington in kickoff classic, open with Colquitt County

NFL veteran Patrick Surtain will get an interesting introduction to being a high school head coach.

Surtain spent the last three seasons as the defensive coordinator at American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) and was part of American Heritage’s back-to-back Florida state title teams in 2013-14. He was promoted to head coach when Mike Rumph left to take a position with the University of Miami.

American Heritage will face four-time defending Florida Class 4A state champion Booker T. Washington (Miami) in a Kickoff Classic at home on Aug. 19. The preseason game won’t count in the standings, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be taken seriously.

After all, American Heritage upended then-No. 2 IMG Academy 19-7 in a kickoff classic last August that helped increase the Patriots’ national profile.

From there, American Heritage opens the regular season at Colquitt County (Moultrie, Ga.), which finished the season ranked No. 2 in the Super 25. Don Bosco (Ramsey, N.J.), which plays in one of the nation’s toughest leagues, then comes for a visit.

The remainder of the schedule is against Florida teams, but Miami Northwestern and Miami Norland should present big challenges.

American Heritage was in the Super 25 rankings for most of the season and was No. 16 when it dropped out in late November.

Here is the proposed schedule, as provided by American Heritage:

8/19              Booker T Washington @ Heritage (Kickoff Classic)
8/26 or 27   @ Colquitt County (Ga.)
9/2                Don Bosco @ Heritage
9/9                @ Northwestern
9/16              @ Coconut Creek
9/23              Norland @ Heritage
9/30             Stranahan @ Heritage
10/7              Bye
10/14            Gibbons @ Heritage
10/21            @ Miami Jackson
10/28           @ Hallandale
11/4              Bye

Hockey team's send-off rally at Pa. school gets out of hand

A send-off rally for the hockey team at Cathedral Prep (Erie, Pa.) got out of hand Friday and school officials are investigating what school president the Rev. Scott Jabo termed “one of the most embarrassing and appalling events I have ever experienced in my life.”

According to Cathedral Prep officials via GoErie.com, up to 75 students “ran through the streets of Erie, shouted obnoxiously while using repulsive language, and blocked traffic,” Jabo wrote.

Officials said six to eight Cathedral Prep students attempted to enter nearby Mercyhurst Prep, with three getting inside before encountering a Mercyhurst teacher and fleeing.

Cathedral Prep’s hockey team is playing in the PIHL Class AAA state championship game against La Salle, from suburban Philadelphia, on Saturday.

In a letter emailed to the families of all students and members of the faculty, Jabo wrote: “Today was a sad day in the history of Cathedral Prep” and said the students involved showed, “some of the most disgusting behaviors and acts of disrespect that I have ever known.”

Mercyhurst caught some of the students via surveillance cameras. No arrests have been made or charges filed at this point, police told GoErie.com. There also were no injuries or property damage.
In an emailed letter of its own to families of students, Mercyhurst said 60 to 75 Cathedral Prep students gathered in front of Mercyhurst, “chanting some negative things. They did so illegally and uninvited.”
Cathedral Prep and Mercyhurst officials are investigating the incident jointly and Jabo intends swift and severe punishment once the students are identified.

“I have never in my life been so disappointed in our students,” Jabo wrote. “I also apologize to other schools, people and groups that either witnessed this poor behavior or were subjected to the disrespect and vulgar language of our students.”

Five-star guard Frank Jackson is a McDonald’s All American and will play for Team USA in the Nike Hoop Summit.

These highlights from our friends at Courtside Films provide some reasons why the Duke signee from Lone Peak High in Utah is so highly regarded.

While Jackson is looking forward to the all-star events, he’s also looking forward to next season at Duke.

“We have a lot of talented players coming in,” said Jackson, who signed with Duke in November. “I know that we’ll have a lot of pressure, but we’re all ready for that. I wish we were all playing together at McDonald’s that would be fun.”

Jackson will go head-to-head against his future Duke teammate Jayson Tatum, a forward at Chaminade College Prep (St. Louis) who is ranked No. 2 overall in the ESPN 100, at the McDonald’s All American Game.

The Nike Opening regional in Atlanta generated 12 invitations to the Final, the most of any of the stops thus far. Two quarterbacks also received invitations to the Elite 11 finals.

A pair of Clemson commits and a pair of Florida State defensive line commits from Newberry (Fla.) were among the 14 players.

The 12 invited to The Opening Final in July at Nike World Headquarters in Oregon include four defensive linemen, three linebackers and two wide receivers.

Here is a quick look at the players heading to The Opening Final:

  • Ja’len Parks, the No. 7 defensive tackle in the Class of 2017 from Newberry (Fla.). He is committed to Florida State.

  • Willie Gay, the No. 18 outside linebacker from Starkville (Miss.).
  • William Poole III, the No. 12 cornerback from Hapeville Charter (Atlanta).
  • D’Antne Demery, a 6-6, 310-pound offensive tackle from Brunswick, Ga.
  • Tre’ McKitty, the No. 16 tight end from IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.). He becomes the seventh IMG player invited; the previous six were from a regional event in Tampa.
  • Amari Rodgers, the Clemson commit wide receiver from Knoxville Catholic in Tennessee.
  • Nico Collins, a wide receiver who is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Alabama and the No. 12 wide receiver overall from Clay-Chalkville (Pinson, Ala.)

Here the positional MVP from the event:

Also moving on is Jake Fromm, the one-time Alabama commit who switched to his home-state school Georgia. Fromm from Houston County in Warner Robins, Ga., is ranked as the No. 3 pro-style QB in the class.

All-Minnesota final in Pure Division at National High School Hockey Championships

Two teams from Minnesota will square off  when Edina meets Wayzata in the Pure Division final at the USA Hockey High School Nationals on Monday in Ashburn, Va.

In the Combined Division final, J.W. Mitchell from Florida meets Boulder/Monarch from Colorado.

The four teams that reached the finals had to win quarterfinal and semifinal games Sunday.

The Pure Division is made up of teams that draw their players from a single school. The Combined Division is for teams made up of players from two or more schools.

This the second year that the nationals have been divided into two divisions. USA Hockey has awarded national championships to top youth teams since 1940 and added a high school championship in 2010.

Teams qualified for the event by winning their league, state title or a qualifying tournament.

In the Pure Division, Edina opened the day with a 7-3 victory against Pittsburgh Central Catholic but then needed overtime for a 1-0 victory against Brookings (S.D.).

Wayzata opened the day with a 7-1 victory against J Serra (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), but then also needed overtime in the semifinals to beat Winston Churchill (Potomac, Md.), by a 6-5 score. Wayzata led 4-1 after the first period but Churchill scored three times in the third to eventually force the OT.

These teams are no strangers with the teams having met multiple times; but Edina posted a 2-1 thriller in the Junior Gold A State Championship in five overtimes.

In the Combined Division, J.W. Mitchell (New Port Richey, Fla.) advanced with a 9-2 victory against Sandra Day O’Connor of Arizona and a 6-4 victory against Manatee (Fla.). Boulder/Monarch downed Bozeman (Mont.) by a 9-0 score in the quarterfinals Sunday morning and then beat the Omaha Jr. Lancers from Nebraska 9-2 in the semifinals.

As a junior on the football field, Johnson compiled 28 solo tackles, nine of which came behind the line of scrimmage.

Two of the nation’s top girls basketball players will square off Saturday in the California state championship when Chaminade face Miramonte in Sacramento.

But the showdown almost didn’t happen.

Duke-bound Leonna Odom hit a game-winning three at the buzzer to lift Chaminade over Long Beach Poly in the Open Division Southern California Regional girls final last weekend.

Awaiting the Eagles will be Miramonte, led by the top uncommitted player in the country, Sabrina Ionescu. Miramonte took down Pinewood 73-40 to win the Northern California Regional girls final.

No. 4 St. Anthony (N.J.) finishes season a perfect 32-0 with resounding wins

$

Seniors at St. Anthony (Jersey City, N.J.) High School entered the season in danger of becoming the first class to go through four years at the national basketball powerhouse without a state championship.

They dodged that distinction in style.

The Friars, ranked fourth nationally in the latest Super 25 rankings, first dispatched Roselle Catholic 53-37 for the state title, then stomped Linden Monday night 55-38 to win the New Jersey Tournament of Champions and finish the season a perfect 32-0.

“It means the world to me and my teammates. After losing three straight years to the same team (Roselle) in the state championship, us seniors set a goal for ourselves to go out as T of C champions and it feels great to say that we did that,” St. Anthony senior guard Jagan Mosely, a Georgetown-commit, told NJ.com. “We weren’t focused on having a perfect season, but to be able to say that we’re the eighth team at St. Anthony’s to go undefeated? That’s special.”

His coach, the legendary Bob Hurley, echoed those sentiments.

“I’m happy for this group of seniors. I live in the now more than I live in previous accomplishments,” Hurley told the paper after winning his record 13 T of C title. “I’m near the end of my coaching career. I should be living in the present all the time.”

A team from Texas remains atop the USA TODAY High School Sports/National Soccer Coaches Association of America Super 25 girls soccer rankings for the winter season, but it’s a different team from the Lone Star State.

Sachse, which was No. 7 in the previous rankings two weeks ago, moves up to the No. 1 spot. With the end of the regular season approaching, Sachse has clinched its fourth consecutive district championship. Even more impressive, it has done it despite season-ending injuries to two of its top players – Texas Tech signee Jordie Harr and Oklahoma State signee Kirsten Siragusa. Harr is among the top players in the nation and is a two-time Gatorade Texas Player of the Year.

Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) moved into the rankings at No. 2 after a pair of victories against Tesoro to conclude its season – a 3-1 victory in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 final and a 5-0 win in the CIF Southern California Regional Division I final.

American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), the Florida Class 3A champion, remains No. 3 and Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) remains No. 4.
