Judson (Converse, Texas) scored 22 points in the fourth quarter for a 35-28 upset victory against No. 9 Lake Travis (Austin) on Friday.
Lake Travis seemed to be pulling away when Maleek Barkley scored on a 21-yard run and a 28-13 lead with 3:24 remaining in the third quarter. It was Lake Travis’ third TD of the quarter after Judson held a 13-7 lead at halftime.
Judson began its comeback on a 14-yard TD run by Mi’kel Jackson with 9:33 left in the game. Julon Williams then cut the margin to 28-26 with 16-yard run with 4:21 left after the two-point conversion pass failed.
With Lake Travis clinging to a two-point lead, Barkley slipped in the end zone for a Judson safety to tie the score at 28-28 with 4:03 left.
Judson’s winning points came on a 36-yard pass to Sincere McCormick with 1:28 left in the game.
Lake Travis got the ball just into Judson territory but was stopped on downs with less than 30 seconds remaining.
Lake Travis travels to Steele (Cibolo) next week. Judson hosts Brennan (San Antonio).
