Nick Gerber of Levelland (Texas) threw six touchdown passes to set the state single-season record with 73, and he’s still going.

In a shootout, Levelland beat Decatur 82-73 — the third time that Levelland has posted more than 70 points in a game. It is now 2-1 in those situations.

The state record of 71 was set by Shelton Eppler of Navasota in 2014. Travis Quintanilla of Refugio threw for 68 touchdowns in 2013. Gerber passed both of them Friday.

Gerber had 459 yards passing in the victory.

For Gerber, the record was more about the opportunity for the team to keep on playing.

“The significance of it for me is just how awesome my teammates are and just how much I love playing with them,” he told USA TODAY High School Sports. “And also that we get to move on and play another week.”

The Lobos (9-3) faces Andrews next week. Andrews won 77-76 in overtime in the meeting earlier this season.
