A day after making an official visit to Penn State, New Jersey defensive tackle Fred Hansard flipped his commitment Sunday from Florida to the Nittany Lions. He announced his decision on Twitter.

Hansard titled his post, “I’m Finally Home.”

The 6-1, 310-pound Hansard, from The Hun School (Princeton), had committed to Florida on Aug. 26. He is ranked as the No. 11 defensive tackle in the nation and No. 4 player overall in New Jersey, according to the 247Sports Composite.

He had 30 reported offers and his trip to State College was his first official visit. He had previously taken an unofficial visit earlier in November.

Behold one of the most amazing plays you’ll ever see on a football field, and it comes from (where else?) Texas:

As noted by Jason Howell of 247Sports, the play would have given St. Pius (Houston), who was undefeated, the victory against Bishop Dunne (Dallas). Alas, it was called back for holding, and, upon closer inspection, it looks a few forward laterals were tossed, and maybe a knee went down.

Still, an amazing play.

Bishop Dunne, who won the game 23-18, moves on to the TAPPS Division I title game.

It’s hard not to be impressed with the stat line for K’Hari Lane, a senior quarterback at Macon County (Montezuma, Ga.).

His touchdown-to-interception ratio for the season is an amazing 50 to 1. Yes, 50 touchdown passes to 1 interception.

Lane has thrown for 3,429 yards with a 63% completion rate as Macon County has advanced to the GHSA Class 1A public school semifinals. The team faces Emanuel County Institute (Twin City, Ga.) on Friday in the semifinals.

He threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-14 quarterfinal win against Manchester.

Jake Fromm has signed his scholarship papers and could be only about six weeks away from arriving on the Georgia campus.

The scholarship papers require Georgia to keep a scholarship open for Fromm, but do not bind him to the school. Still, he has given no indication that he is taking other visits or has any plans other than to attend Georgia.

Ranked as the No. 4 pro-style quarterback prospect in the nation, Fromm and his family got some visitors for Sunday dinner: Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart and offensive coordinator Jim Chaney.

“It was awesome just to see them on a personal level,” Fromm told DawgNation. “Just to have them in your house and everything was a good experience for me and my family. A lot of the people in our community got to come by and say hello. Man, it was just an awesome night.”

Fromm is from Warner Robbins, Ga., about a 120-mile drive from Athens.

Before he gets to Georgia, Fromm will officially finish up his high school career in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 7 in San Antonio.

At 5-6, Fred Cleveland may seem to be at a distinct disadvantage on the basketball court.

He’s not.

As you can see, the sophomore at Chicago’s Urban Prep Englewood uses superior quickness and ingenuity to balance out his lack of height and excel on the floor.

Donovan Peoples-Jones, the top wide receiver recruit in the nation, is regarded as the best player in Michigan and he showed it during Saturday’s state championship game.

Peoples-Jones had six catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns as No. 16 Cass Tech (Detroit) beat Catholic Central 49-20 at Ford Field.

Along with his stellar play, Peoples-Jones’ shoes get attention on social media. He was wearing Yeezy cleats.

For the uninitiated, these are cleats by Kanye West and adidas that the company says features  “a breakthrough material developed using Adidas’ most advanced digital engineering techniques.” Notably, the NFL banned the cleats — and fined players for wearing them — citing a rule that says cleats must have a solid base color.”

In the wake of Tom Herman’s departure from Houston to Texas, the Houston football recruiting class took its first hit.

Cornerback Javelin Guidry from Vista Murrieta (Murrieta Calif.) announced on Twitter that he was decommitting from the Cougars’ class and reopening his recruitment.

Guidry had committed in May.

His departure leaves the Houston class with 20 commits.  The class is ranked No. 35 overall in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.

Cartersville (Ga.) quarterback Trevor Lawrence, ranked as the top player in the Class of 2018, surpassed 10,000 career passing yards as Cartersville (Ga.) downed Woodward and has now led his team to the state semifinals for the third consecutive year.

Lawrence now has 10,147 yards in 42 games since taking over as the starting quarterback five games into his freshman season.

The team is 40-2 over that span since Joey King’s arrival and the decision to start Lawrence.

Cartersville, the defending state AAAA champions, have now won 28 consecutive games (13-0 this season) and face Mary Persons (Forsyth) on Friday.

Lawrence has thrown 114 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in his career while completing nearly 63 percent of his passes.

He already has accepted an invitation to the Army Bowl in January 2018. He has 24 reported offers and has taken unofficial visits to Clemson, Georgia and LSU in the last few months.

Army All-American linebacker Baron Browning delays college decision

In an interesting twist, five-star linebacker Baron Browning has delayed his college announcement that was scheduled for Tuesday, saying he needs more time.

Browning, an Army All-American from Kennedale (Texas), is an early enrollee so a decision will need to come soon with about six weeks or so until he begins college.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Browning is ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 2 outside linebacker and the No. 3 player in Texas.

Browning has taken all five of his official visits: Alabama, UCLA, Florida State, Michigan and finished with Ohio State last weekend. His final six also includes TCU.

The immediate was that this might open the door for Texas and new coach Tom Herman to at least get a chance to make their case to him.

Alabama commit VanDarius Cowan was among those supporting Browning’s decision to delay.

Del Oro (Calif.) leaves empty seat for longtime girls basketball coach who died in offseason

Longtime Del Oro (Calif.) coach Mike Takayama died in June after a heart attack.

The 56-year-old left behind his wife Kathy, son Ryan, and a full town’s worth of former Del Oro girls basketball players from his 29 years at the helm. Takayama topped 600 career victories, all at Del Oro. He was the catalyst in turning Del Oro into a bona fide state power, earning two section titles, 18 league titles and 28 tournament berths, meaning that his teams missed the entire CIF playoffs just once.

As the new season is about to get underway, the team left a seat open on the bench with a sportscoat over it and flowers. The flowers were provided by Del Oro’s opponent, Ponderosa (Shingle Springs, Calif.) in a classy gesture prior to the teams’ scrimmage.

Army All-American Netori Johnson promises to lead next season at Georgia: 'I lag behind no one'

Netori Johnson (U.S. Army All-American Bowl)

Cedar Grove (Ellenwood, Ga.) offensive tackle Netori Johnson was presented with his honorary U.S. Army All-American jersey Tuesday, and the 6-3, 348-pound future Georgia Bulldog sounded like a guy ready to make an immediate impact in Athens.

Johnson was honored at his school as part of the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance.

“It was unbelievable,” Johnson said of the ceremony. “Being in front of the whole school and just to be an Army All-American is great.”

Johnson, who has several family members who have served in the military, considers the invite extra special.

“It feels great to represent my country and represent the Army, my family, and my school,” he said. “I’m really honored to be able to be there.”

The game will be played Jan. 7 in San Antonio and will give Johnson a sneak peek at what he’ll be up against in years to come. He also will be on the same team as Georgia quarterback commit Jake Fromm and could get a sense of blocking in front of him.

“I’m looking forward to going against some great players while I’m down there, and getting better at practice while I’m there, too,” he said. “I want to get an idea of what I’ll be up against next year, because when I get down to Georgia I want to play.”

And Johnson was anything but modest when discussing his expectations in Athens.

“I’m looking forward to the run game,” Johnson said. “Right now, up front, they can’t really run the ball the way they want to. I’m looking forward to bringing them a leader, that’s a freshman. I lag behind no one. I don’t follow anyone. That’s something I’ll bring to that team.

“I’m gonna play hard, give it my best, and I’m a diehard football player –that’s what Georgia’s getting.”

St. John's (D.C.) teammates Calvin Ashley, Tyree Johnson receive Under Armour All-America jerseys

Calvin Ashley’s high school football career for St. John’s (Washington, D.C.) ended with a scary moment when he was knocked unconscious and taken from the field on a stretcher in a loss to DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.).

Ashley tweeted later that night that he was “cleared from the hospital and will be fine.”

The five-star offensive tackle will get to writer a happier ending when he plays in the Under Armour All-America Game on Jan. 1 in Orlando.

Ashley and St. John’s defensive end Tyree Johnson received their honorary jerseys Tuesday in a ceremony at the school as part of the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance.

Both players are headed to the SEC: Ashley is an Auburn commit and Johnson is a Texas A&M commit.

For Ashley, the game in Orlando will be a return home. He began his high school career a Dr. Phillips in Orlando before moving to the D.C. area. Ranked as the No. 6 offensive tackle and No. 22 player overall by ESPN, Ashley is massive at 6-7 and 310 pounds.

He is planning official visits to Auburn, Florida, Maryland and perhaps others, but is not planning to sign until National Signing Day in February, meaning some January visits are possible.

I’m looking forward to going down there and competing against all the best and having a lot of fun,” he said.

Johnson, who is 6-4 and 247 pounds, finished his senior season with 32 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. He had seven tackles and four tackles for loss in the WCAC title game against DeMatha.

He committed to Texas A&M in August, but took a visit to Missouri in late October and was recently offered by Michigan State to bring his total to 27 reported offers. However, he says he remains firm in his commitment.

The aspect of the game I am looking forward to is showing people that I am underrated and getting to show some off my talent,” Johnson said.

The stop at St. John’s was the final leg of the Selection Tour.
