If nothing else, this is efficient.

According to a tweet from Kenyatta Watson, a former coach and the father of Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) safety Kenyatta Watson II, nine players in the Class of 2019 from Grayson were offered by the Hoosiers.

The group includes Watson II, Wanya Morris, Ronald Thompkins and Tru Thompson — all Florida State commits — as well as national No. 1 outside linebacker Owen Pappoe, who narrowed his list to 10 this week. Indiana was not among them.

Grayson won the Class AAAAAA state title last season and went 14-1 to finish No. 7 in the Super 25.

Guard Prentiss Hubb announced his commitment to Notre Dame.

The 6-2 Hubb from Gonzaga College High (Washington, D.C.) chose the Irish over a final four that also included Maryland, Virginia and Villanova.

He was named to the American Family Insurance ALL-USA District of Columbia First Team after averaging 13.3 points and 4.5 assists per game during Gonzaga’s run to the DCSAA championship.

Hubb is ranked as the No. 5 shooting guard in the Class of 2018 according to the 247Sports Composite. Rankings by Rivals and ESPN also have him listed as a shooting guard.

Gonzaga coach Steve Turner said the team played with two point guards last season — Miami signee Chris Lykes is the other — and that Hubb will have the ball in his hands more this coming season. Turner said most schools were recruiting him as a point guard.

Hubb is the first commit in the Class of 2018 for Notre Dame, which is expected to have four openings following the 2017-18 season.

Hubb visited South Bend after the second session of the Under Armour Association, which was held on the last weekend in April in Westfield, Ind. He is playing for DC Premier on the UAA circuit.

Credit the Las Vegas High volleyball team for its innovation on its pregame intro, as captured in a tweet by Ashton Ferguson from the Las Vegas Review-Journal. This one has the circle, the cartwheels, the flips and then coming together at the end.

Las Vegas would end up losing the 4A state title to Palo Verde (Las Vegas) by scores of 25-16, 25-16, 18-25 and 25-23, but the intro certainly got the crowd involved.

The Alhambra (Calif.) High softball team had two notable streaks ends this week in a 5-0 loss to Concord:

  • The team had not been shut out in 125 games — a span that stretches to a non-league game against Monte Vista in 2013.
  • The team lost a league game for the first time since 2010 — a span of 81 games.

“We know we have solid defense, so we just focused on playing our game, and getting an early lead,” Concord coach Megan Coddington told Prep2Prep.com. “(Alhambra) did hit the ball hard, but we played great defense.”

Brennen Oxford remains unhittable.

Oxford, a Wake Forest-bound junior lefthander for Oyster River (Durham, N.H.), threw his fourth consecutive no-hitter in a 6-0 victory against Hollis-Brookline on Thursday.

Amazingly, he closed out the no-hitter Thursday by striking out the side in the seventh inning. He finished with 13 strikeouts and allowed two walks and hit a batter.

He has now gone 30 2/3 innings without a hit. He has 46 strikeouts and 13 walks during the four no-hitters. He whiffed 10 against Goffstown, eight against Pembroke and 15 against Laconia.

“It was probably the best of the four,” he told Fosters.com, “but still not good enough. I expect a lot out of myself. I had a few walks, so there is always something to work on.”

Oyster River is 8-4 overall and 4-1 in Oxford’s starts.

“This is pretty-darn special. Right now he’s just locked in,” Oyster River coach Craig Walfield told Fosters.com. “I’ve never seen him like this. He wants the ball, knows when his starts are coming and he’s just stayed himself. He’s just a kid and he’s having a good time, but he’s turned into a monster.”

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations record book, the national record is six in a row set by Chris Taranto of Notre Dame (Biloxi, Miss.) in 1961 and equaled by Tom Engle of Fairfield Union (Lancaster, Ohio) in 1989.

UPDATE: According to Fox5 Atlanta, the GHSA denied Johns Creek’s appeal.

Below is the original story:

The Georgia High School Athletic Association is set to hear an appeal Friday by Johns Creek of its baseball playoff loss to Lee County (Leesburg), according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Johns Creek thought it had won the game on a bases loaded walk in the seventh inning, but the umpires ruled that the winning run was nullified because the runner going from second base to third base never touched third to complete the play. The Lee County coach had appealed the play at third.

That kept the score at 3-3 and Lee County won the game 5-3 with two runs in the top of the eighth.

Lee County won Game 1 in the series 7-5 and so the Game 2 win completed the sweep. Lee County thought it had moved on to the next round to face Pope in the Class AAAAAA championship series.

When GHSA executive director Gary Phillips ruled the umpires’ decision stands, Johns Creek appealed. A four-member panel will hear the appeal.

Julia Jensen from Reed (Sparks, Nev.) struck out 21 batters over 10 innings in a 9-3 victory against Coronado (Henderson) in the 4A state softball tournament Friday in Las Vegas.

The total ranked No. 3 in state history overall, but the most in a 10-inning game. The state record is 24 in a 15-inning game. The No. 2 total is 22 in a 14-inning game.

Jensen, a Nevada signee, also had two home runs in the losers bracket game.

Despite Jensen’s performance, Reed needed extra innings to advance. Jensen, Rheanna Smith and Jessica Sellers all hit home runs in the 10th inning. Jensen also had a three-run home run in the first inning.

Palo Verde beat Reed in a winners bracket game earlier Friday, 2-0, on a two-run home run by Grace Chavez. Reed will face Palo Verde on Saturday for the championship. If Reed wins that game, it will force a second game, to follow.

Saturday also will mark the end of Jensen’s illustrious high school softball career.

Two high schools seniors and a junior were among 12 players named to the2017 USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Cup Team, USA Basketball announced.

The roster was selected from among 32 players who took part in four days of trials at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The three high schoolers: seniors Chennedy Carter from Timberview (Arlington, Texas) and Megan Walker from Monacan (Chesterfield, Va.); and junior Christyn Williams from Central Arkansas Christian School (Little Rock, Ark.).

The 6-1 Walker is a UConn signee who is ranked No. 1 in the Class of 2017 by espnW HooprGurlz. Carter, a 5-7 point guard, is a Texas A&M signee who is ranked No. 6 in the Class of 2017.

Williams, a 5-11 guard, is ranked No. 1 overall in the espnW HoopGurlz rankings for the Class of 2018.

“It means the world (to be selected), especially since my birthday was (Saturday),” Williams said. “This is a great birthday present. Considering I’m the youngest player here, it’s a huge honor to be selected to this team.

“I tried to demonstrate that I was very coachable, a great teammate and I’m a scorer, because that’s my game. I think I was pretty consistent the whole trials.”

Walker, an American Family Insurance ALL-USA First Team selection, was on the 2016 USA U18 National Team that went 5-0 and won gold. She also won silver at the 2016 FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup.

“It’s just a blessing –just to be able to wear ‘USA’ and compete against the best teams in the world,” Walker said. “The competition was tough. I’m excited, and I’m ready to represent my country.”

Carter was named to the ALL-USA First Team after leading Timberview to a 5A state-runner-up finish, averaging 20.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists. But rather than being a senior leader, she enters Team USA as among the younger players.

“I feel like, just me being younger, the older and more experienced girls will be able to show me and guide me through the practice and training camp,” Carter said. “I feel like we have a great group of girls and a great team. Just in trials, I jelled with a bunch of them that I got the opportunity to play with.”

The U.S. team has won six consecutive gold medals in the FIBA U19 World Cup for Women and will aim for seven at the July 22-30 event in Cividale del Friuli and Udine, Italy. Training camp begins July 7.

Four-star offensive tackle uses little sister to hilariously troll recruiting process

Jackson Lampley is a highly sought-after four-star offensive tackle recruit in the Class of 2019.

At 6-4 and nearly 300 pounds, Lampley is considered No. 11 at his position and No. 88 overall by Top247Sports in his class. From Montgomery Bell Academy (Nashville), Lampley has 13 reported offers, including from Tennessee in his home state. Jackson’s dad, Brad, played for Tennessee in the mid-1990s.

And clearly he gets the recruiting process, and some of its absurdity. That led to this awesome tweet about his 5-year-old sister over the weekend:

“I decided to do it because it was her first goal ever, and to kind of joke about what recruits say, including a lot of buddies of mine,” Jackson told USA TODAY High School Sports. “I figured that not a lot of people would get the joke, but the ones that did would think it was pretty funny.”

Consider us among the ones who thought it was more than pretty funny.

Grayson (Loganville, Ga.) will forfeit all 19 of its girls soccer victories and a state runner-up finish after using an ineligible player, the Georgia High School Association confirmed Monday.

According to GwinnettPrepSports.com, the school also was fined an undisclosed amount.

Grayson used the eligible player for 23 games, but four of those were losses.

According to the report and the GHSA findings, a player who spent the last two years at another school district did not make what the association determined was a “bona fide move” into the Grayson district. The player did not play in the state title game after the school was alerted.

Grayson athletic and activities director Brian DeBerry told GwinnettPrepSports.com that school officials would have no comment.

Joy Ripslinger capped her high school career at Assumpton (Davenport, Iowa) with a history-making performance.

Ripslinger, an Arkansas signee, became the first athlete to win the 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000 meters in the same state track meet. She also will leave high school with 3A state meet record in the 800 (2:07.51), 1,500 (4:39) and 3,000 (9:55.37).

She joined five other girls athletes to win four individual events at the same state meet. Overall, she won nine individual or relay titles at state.

“I’ve always been involved 400 to 3,000 in my four years, but I never thought I’d be state champion-caliber in all four,” she told The Quad City Times. “It is amazing to me that my training has brought me to that position.”

For her career, she finished with 16 state medals and seven Drake Relays victories.

Assumption won a record fifth consecutive 3A team championship.

“I don’t know what could top this,” Ripslinger told The Quad City Times. “This is a milestone I’ll never forget and something I’ll hold close to my heart for the rest of my life.”
