No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) will travel to California this week in a monster matchup against No. 7 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) and its vaunted defense.

In two games so far this season, the Braves haven’t allowed a single point. That figures to change when the Gaels, led by Ohio State commit QB Tate Martell, come to town. Gorman boasts an electric offense, including RB Biaggio Ali-Walsh, a Cal commit, but it seems Bosco is most focused on Martell.

“I think he’s most dangerous when he breaks the containment, ad libs and becomes Tate Manziel,” Bosco coach Jason Negro told the Los Angeles Times.

Negro is not the first person to make that comparison, although that has quieted since Martell decommitted from Texas A&M and selected Ohio State.

Bosco should know. The last time these two teams met, in 2014, current UCLA QB Josh Rosen led Bosco against Martell, then a sophomore.

Gorman came away with a 34-31 victory.

A Stanford commit since December, Parkinson can catch the ball and once he gets it, he is tough to bring down.

Parkinson, ranked No. 31 overall, recently was named a five-star prospect in the latest 247 Composite.

Check out one of his catches against St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia) from our friends at #D1Bound and see how many white jerseys surround him to bring him down. He also is not afraid to get physical out in the flat.

Kicker Anders Carlson becomes first player to get Under Armour All-America jersey

Anders Carlson has one key phrase in the credo of being a successful kicker: Do your job.

Asked about his goals for his senior season at The Classical Academy (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Carlson said, “I’m trying to help my team and do my job to make it to the state finals.”

And about the Kohl’s Kicking Camps in which he earned an invitation to the Under Armour All-America Game: “I did my job and was pleased to do that. It was a good group of kickers and I was blessed to do so well.”

Carlson became the first player to officially receive his honorary jersey for the Under Armour All-America Game as the Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance began Tuesday at his school.

“It was a very special moment for me and my family,” he said. “Dreams become reality. … I was able to get that jersey on and it was big smiles all around. I’m very excited for the future and the game as well.”

RELATED: Specialists named for Under Armour All-America Game

The Under Armour game is Jan. 1 in Orlando and will be televised on ESPN. Andrew Mevis from Warsaw (Ind.) will be the placekicker for the other team.

Carlson, ranked as the nation’s No. 1 kicker by Kohl’s after the national camp, also figures to get some TV time at the next level – and doing his job might get a bit harder.

Carlson committed to Auburn in June and got a taste of what to expect with his official visit this weekend. Carlson kicked two field goals in Classical’s victory Friday night and then flew to Alabama in the wee hours Saturday morning.

“I’m just preparing myself for Auburn or to redshirt,” he said. “Every kick I’m visualizing that I’m playing in the SEC championship game with fans screaming at me. Physically, I feel like I’m there, but there’s a lot of preparation mentally.”

RELATED: Under Armour Selection Tour gets underway

He also has a good source of advice since his older brother, Daniel, is currently Auburn’s kicker and is among the best in the nation. While Anders hopes to push his brother, he also figures he’s likely to redshirt for Daniel’s senior year.

“He’s told me to believe in yourself,” Anders said. “People are going to doubt you when do good and when you do bad so if you stick true to yourself and keep working hard, you should be fine. God has blessed us and just trust in him.”

Anders acknowledged he faced a decision as to whether to go to the same school as his brother.

“I was thinking about whether I would be the little brother and live under legacy,” he said, “he’ll be gone when I take the role. I think I can be under him and make my own path as well. It will be a good mentoring experience and then I can go and do my own thing.”

Here’s a tip if your team is facing Reidsville (N.C.) — kick it away from punt returner Austyn Chestnut.

Chestnut tied a North Carolina state record for punt return touchdowns in a game when he returned three in a 63-0 victory against Morehead. The returns were from 34, 49 and 71 yards.

VishoneKennion also had three for East Duplin against Richlands in 1997.

The performance also ties the 5-8, 155-pound Chestnut for fourth in the nation for single-game punt return touchdowns.

The Thanksgiving Hoopfest in Texas, has announced its field for the 2016 event and will add girls teams, including defending Super 25 national champion Duncanville, for the first time in its eight-year history.

The tournament is scheduled for Sandra Meadows Arena in Duncanville on Nov. 25 and 26.

Organizers says the boys tournament in its first seven years has featured 50 state championship teams, 20 McDonald’s All-Americans and 10 current NBA players, included

Emmanuel Mudiay (Denver Nuggets), Marcus Smart (Boston Celtics) and Julius Randle (Los Angeles Lakers).

The committed boys teams are: Westlake (Austin, Texas); Carver (Ala.) Cedar Hill (Texas), Steele (Cibolo, Texas); Columbus (Miss.); Dallas Lincoln; Dallas Kimball, Dallas Skyline, Duncanville (Texas); Trinity (Euless, Texas), Hall (Ark.); Lafayette Christian (Lafayette, La.); Timberview (Mansfield, Texas); North Crowley (Texas); Prestonwood (Texas); Putnam City (Okla.); and South Garland (Texas).

The girls field is led by host Duncanville, which went 39-0 and won the 6A state title. Riverdale Baptist (Upper Marlboro, Md.), the National Association of Christian Athletes tournament champion and DICK’S Sporting Goods Nationals finalist, is also in the field along with Argyle (Texas), Dallas Lincoln, Liberty (Frisco, Texas), Mansfield Legacy (Texas) and Timberview (Mansfield, Texas.)

“Bringing the girls into this equation was a strategic move and I couldn’t be any happier with the decision.” Thanksgiving Hoopfest Director Glenn Smith said in a news release.

How photographer captured viral 'ghost' photo in high school football game

By now you have probably seen the mind-bending “ghost” photo that has gone viral from the Allen (Texas) football game against Evangel Christian (Shreveport, La.).

But if you’re wondering how Dallas Morning News photographer Jae Lee captured the image that has been shared multiple times and written about by virtually every outlet, including our friends at For The Win, Lee penned an explainer.

Here is an excerpt:

Nationally-ranked powerhouse Allen was dominating the game in the first half. I saw that the Evangel players were in a passing formation with no running backs lined up behind the quarterback in a third-and-long situation. So I got into position behind the line, anticipating that there might be Allen players sacking the Evangel quarterback.

I shot five frames on the play and the quarterback threw an incomplete pass. With an incomplete pass and no sack, I didn’t think anything special happened so I didn’t look at the shots on the back of the camera to review them. My guess was wrong.

After the game was over and all of my “best” photos had been sent, I was sending in extra photos from the game to beef up the online slideshow. While looking at my outtakes to make sure I hadn’t overlooked anything, I suddenly noticed an image of a helmet floating in the air. I zoomed in to get a closer look and said, “Bang! That’s a shot I’ve never seen before!”

I was lucky to capture the perfect moment with the angle of the flying helmet perfectly upright, but the lighting in Allen’s Eagle Stadium helped. Because of their beautifully bright stadium lights, I could shoot with a high shutter speed to stop the action (shutter speed 1/1250th sec., aperture f4, at ISO 5000, with a 200-400mm lens on a Canon 1-Dx camera).
